No. 3 Arizona Basketball rolls in comfortable win over Southern
TUCSON, AZ – Fresh off their big win over Duke, No. 3 Arizona Basketball (3-0) was back in action as they comfortably won against Southern (1-2).
We are rolling along in the 2023-24 Arizona Basketball, and just days after stunning then No. 2 ranked Duke in Durham, the Wildcats were back in action!
Welcoming Southern to town for a little Monday night basketball, the Wildcats would be the massive favorites in this one and they would need to weather a sluggish start before rolling to a dominant win.
Despite a slow start, Arizona would score 97 points on 53.4 percent shooting from the field including 7-17 (41.2 percent) from three as the Wildcats demolished the visiting Jaguars, 97-59!
Arizona received significant offensive contributions all over the hardwood on Monday evening as six Wildcats finished in double-figures; however, it was San Diego State transfer Keshad Johnson who led the way, scoring a team-high 17 points on 6-8 shooting from the field as he added six rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.
Freshmen Motiejus Krivas and KJ Lewis would finish their nights by scoring 12 points each respectively as they were huge contributors off the bench for the Cats!
Despite only leading by 12 at halftime, No. 3 Arizona Basketball cruised to the comfortable, 38-point win over Southern.
Hoping to continue its hot start to the 2023-24 season, this one would finally go the way of the Wildcats when a dunk from Johnson would put the Cats in front at 21-19.
Despite Southern’s best attempts to keep this one close, Arizona would close out the first half on a 14-4 run to lead 35-23 at the break!
Leading by 12 at the half, Arizona’s offense would start to come alive in the second half as they opened the half on a 10-0 run that pushed their lead to 22 when Oumar Ball converted on a fast break layup to make it 45-23 with 18:23 to play.
The offensive dominance wouldn’t cease either as Arizona continued to put the stranglehold on Southern, extending its lead to as many as 38 after freshman forward Paulius Murauskas connected on a three-pointer making it 75-37 with 10:17 to play!
Still controlling this one, Arizona would hang tough in the end, winning by a 97-59 final!
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the year and will resume basketball action on Friday when they take on Belmont at home. Tip-off against the Bruins is set for 9:00 PM MST!
