The New York Jets have been relentless in their pursuit of offensive weapons over the last few years, and Miller having them select McLachlan in the sixth round is no different. In Miller's mock draft, McLachlan is the second tight end drafted by the Jets after taking former Georgia stud Brock Bowers in the first round.
Projected role: After leaning on former Minnesota backup Tyler Conklin for years, the Jets are making a move to get younger and more freakish at the tight end position. McLachlan projects best as a rotational guy who will hit the field in lighter packages where he'll be asked to catch the ball and make someone miss. He will, however, need to take some time to work on his blocking ability.
Roster outlook: This is a beautiful fit, with McLachlan having the opportunity to join a room full of freakish athletes with three or fewer years under the belt: Bowers, McLachlan, Jeremy Ruckert out of Ohio State, and Zack Kuntz out of Old Dominion. Though it'll be a battle to touch the turf, iron sharpens iron, and McLachlan's athleticism and sure hands are hard to leave on the sidelines for too long.
