Arizona Football: Quarterback Commit Khalil Tate is Calm under pressure; A Phenom on the Field

Khalil Tate attends Junipero Serra High School in Gardena California where he plays Quarterback. He will be graduating from High School in 2016.  Tate committed to the University of Arizona just last week on March 16th.

Khalil Tate is one of the best all-around recruits in the nation and was in high demand due to his athletic ability. He stands six feet and two inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. He’s agile, he’s fast, and he’s acrobatic; he can jump over the defense into the end zone with ease.

The reason Khalil wanted to come to Arizona is because Coach Rich Rodriguez wants to develop him into a dual threat Quarterback.  Just watch his highlight reel and you will see why.

Tate also had offers from 15 schools, eight of them being Pac-12 teams including Cal, Oregon State, ASU, Washington State, UCLA, USC, and Utah.  He was also offered by Kansas, Texas A&M and five other schools. Here is Tate and his high school teammates visiting USC in January of this year.

According to PacificTakes.com’s scouting report by Jamie Uyeyama:

"“He flashes some dynamic ability on designed quarterback runs. He has the speed to gain big chunk yardage and can make defenders miss as well. He runs with no fear and actually appears to be looking for contact at times. That might not be the attitude some want to have in their starting quarterback, but it’s what makes him someone who can be utilized in all situations running the football.”"

According to Sporst360AZ.com’s Jared Cohan, Khalil ended last season where he threw for over 1,300 yards and rushed for over 1,200 leading the Cavaliers to an 8-3 record. Also mentioned was the fact that Khalil and his coaches really felt Arizona was a great fit for him, especially because Tate wanted to play Quarterback:

"“I want to play quarterback in college,” Tate told Greg Biggins of Scout.com. “I visited Arizona last year spring with my Team 19 7v7 team and loved it there. I love the coaches, the campus and everything about the school. I love the offense and it really fits me well too.”“When I got the offer from Arizona awhile back, my coach, Scott Altenberg, told me our offense is a lot like theirs and ever since then, I started visualizing myself playing for UA,” he added to Biggins. “Coach Rich Rod is an offensive genius and great with quarterbacks. I have a great relationship with Coach Dews and Coach Smith too and like I said, it’s just a great fit for me.”"

Tate let us in on how happy and relieved he is that he committed to Arizona:
