Former Arizona Football receiver Shawn Poindexter was impressive at the annual East-West Shrine game, finishing with a solid performance.

The 2018 college football season is officially over and as teams prepare for their off-seasons, seniors are beginning to partake in all-star games, showcasing their skills for a potential NFL career. Arizona’s Shawn Poindexter is one of them.

As we highlighted days ago, Poindexter, Shun Brown and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles will have a busy couple weeks, preparing for their pro-days and taking part in senior bowls as well.

For those needing a reminder, the former Wildcats finished 2018 with 42 receptions, 759 yards and 11 touchdowns. Well, following the stellar senior season, Poindexter got the invitation to represent the West in the annual East-West Shrine game.

On Saturday in St. Petersburg, FL, Poindexter finally took to the field one last time, just before his pro-day. Just as he did many times this season, the 6-foot-5 receiver was impressive once again, making nice catches and making big plays.

The senior finished the game with a very solid, four receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown in the West’s win.

The touchdown came in the third quarter on a 22-yard strike from North Dakota State’s Easton Stick to put the West up 21-0. Poindexter would catch the Stick pass from about the four-yard line, darting into the endzone un-touched.

The West would eventually win the game by a 21-17 final.

Now, Poindexter will wait to see if he gets an invitation to the annual NFL Combine held in February. If not, he will likely have to wait until Arizona’s pro-day to showcase what he can truly do in front of scouts.

As of now, Poindexter isn’t considered one of the top receivers in the draft, but one thing I’m sure scouts are noticing is his size and overall talent ceiling.

A former volleyball player, Poindexter made the transition to football, and has been steadily getting better every year. I feel Poindexter will get his chance somewhere.
