Your Guide – Arizona Wildcats Football Recruiting Class 2015

facebooktwitterreddit

Arizona Wildcats coach Richard Rodriguez is taking a page out of the Seattle Seahawks Pete Carol playbook by finding players who fit the team, but not necessarily players who are being recruited by all the top teams. Arizona football’s 2015 recruiting class is ranked 36th nationally by Scout and 39th by Rivals and 247sports.com. Arizona’s incoming class of 28 includes 3 four-star and 25 three-star recruits. Keenan Walker OT, who is one of the four-star Arizona recruits is ranked in the ESPNU 300 at #8 for his position and #91 overall.

Keenan Walker was offered by four other PAC 12 teams including Washington, USC, UCLA and UA’s rival Arizona State. Walker attends Chaparral High School in Scottsdale Arizona, and even though he will be changing zip codes, he is staying true to his home state. He committed to the Arizona Wildcats on April 26, 2014! Walker is a 6’6” 282 pound offensive tackle which is a key position needed on the Arizona offensive squad. According to ESPN Scouting Insider report online: Walker comes out of a successful program and shows good flashes…once he puts all the pieces together can be good starter for a power conference program.”

Another of Arizona’s 4-star recruits, DT Anthony Fotu, who hails from San Leandro, C.A., is transferring from Laney College and signed on December 17, 2014. Fotu is one of six JUCO recruits in Arizona’s 2015 class.

Cody Creason (Twitter: @Cody_Creason), an offensive guard tops off coach Rich Rod’s 4-star recruits. He attends Folsom High School in Fresno. Creason was offered by five other PAC12 teams: Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah and Washington State. ESPNU Scouting report feels that Cody displays ability to be a good, productive player in trenches. Whomever ends up being the Arizona Wildcat quarter back will appreciate having Cody help protect him.

USC ends up with the #6 recruiting class of 2015, this will be their first top 10 class since 2011. USC is going to continue to get the best prospects out of California with more scholarships to offer these days and being an easy campus to visits for local California recruits. As an example, Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, C.A. is a USC target for two key defensive players Rasheem Green and John Houston Jr.. USC has 21 total commits with a whopping 15 four-star recruits.  You can find USC’s complete recruiting class here.

Oregon with the #14 recruiting class of 2015 according to ESPNU, they are trying to get over the gap between good and great, picking up many players from California.  Oregon attracts a number of California recruits and includes 1 five-star recruit, and 8 four-star recruits.  Oregon landed 7 recruits from the ESPN 300 ranking. Feel free to peruse the entire Oregon recruiting class here.

Alabama is in position to finish 2015 with the #1 recruiting class for the 4th year in a row. Interesting, they made it to the final 4 but did not make it into the National Championship game and still they attract the best of the best. Alabama recruits dream of having people cheer for them by encouraging recruits to “Roll Tide.”

Hopefully someday soon, recruits would rather hear the word “Beardown”! Come to think of it, maybe not? Seems Rich Rod’s last recruiting class produced a now highly decorated defensive player by the name of

Scooby Wright III

. The Arizona Wildcats performed at a higher level than most fans expected by winning the Pac12 South, going to the Fiesta Bowl, and only losing 2 conference games and 4 games total during the entire season. And who could forget the “Hill Mary” hail marry pass from

Anu Solomon

to

Austin Hill

in the final seconds of the Cal game in 2014 with one of the greatest 4th quarter comebacks in Wildcat history.  Here is the video so you can enjoy this moment again or if you missed it as called by

(2 men I’ve had the great pleasure to work side by side with for the UCLA game last year):

Scooby Wright II made us all proud, and we relished our twitter feeds viewing picture after picture of Scooby dapper in his suits accepting one award after another. Scooby (Twitter: @TwoStarScoob) earned 3 awards: the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Bronko Nagurski Award, and the Vince Lombardi/Rotary Award. The fact that he is coming back for 2015 is news to our ears, and we will be watching as he enters the chase for the Heisman trophy next season to add to his current collection! He will definitely have a positive effect on the team and all the new recruits you can be assured.

So have we learned that stars next to your name does not mean much some times? Speaking of underrated football players, what about the New England Patriots game winning play maker rookie corner Malcolm Butler? Malcolm was un-drafted, and without him, the Patriots probably would not have won the Superbowl last Sunday.

I, for one, am really looking forward to finding out how Rich Rod will be bringing the 2015 together and weaving in his new recruits and that end of training camp dance off…”In Rich Rod we trust!”
