Year Two of Anu Solomon: Arizona Wildcats Football Will be Special

Arizona Wildcats very own Anu Solomon has been listed in several articles as an early “who to watch” candidate for the 2015/2016 Heisman.

Anu Solomons first year taking control of Coach Rodriguez’s offense had its ups and downs. When you look at his games where he put up ridiculous numbers, it is easy to see why he would be an early candidate.

It’s his performances in the Pac-12 Championship, and at the end of the Fiesta Bowl where it doesn’t seem logical to have Anu and Heisman be mentioned in the same sentence. Out of all this, only one thing matters… the 2015/2016 football season will be exciting and fun to watch.

Wildcat fans need to remember who is really leading the football team on the field. This is a young QB who threw for over 3,500 yards, 30 total touchdowns, and a Pac-12 South Title. These kind of numbers aren’t uncommon for Anu. He has been making big plays since his High School days completing 35 passing TD’s his senior year. He helped lead his High School team to four straight Nevada State titles. The big numbers translated well for his first year leading the team.

With year two rapidly approaching, expectations are higher for Arizona and Anu Solomon, more than they have been in recent years. Fans have tasted the sweetness of a Pac-12 South Championship, and now the thirst has grown. It can be a lot to ask for from a young QB. Are our expectations too high for a RS Sophomore QB? Some might say yes, as there are many examples of high-profile quarterbacks folding under the pressure year after year. But with Anu as the leader, Wildcat fans shouldn’t need to worry.

By nature, Anu Solomon is a quiet person. You don’t see him pacing up and down the sidelines, screaming, yelling, and slapping helmets. But when you ask his teammates, and coaches, Anu is very much the leader of the team. His demeanor is very similar to former Oregon Ducks QB Marcus Mariota. Leading up to the draft, and still being discussed now, scouts were very vocal about whether or not Mariota can be a voice for the team. This same question is thrown out about Anu. Sometimes it’s the smallest expression that can be the loudest, as this Instagram photo/caption shows.

Anu Solomon being mentioned in the preseason Heisman talks shouldn’t be questioned. Statistics alone show Anu grows more and more each year. This off-season Anu has been vocal about wanting to clean up his mistakes, and be smarter on the field. It is fair to expect a big jump in year two, and Anu isn’t shying away.

I for one expect to see a more athletic Anu Solomon on the field, toying with defenders minds on what he will do next. The stage in Tucson has been set for our RS Sophomore QB. Expectations and goals have been set. Arizona Wildcats Football faithful are in for a show.
