Arizona 14  Ohio State 7

No one in Columbus or Tucson thought the Cats had a chance going on the road to play a Big Ten Power in 1967. The Buckeyes had already won four National Championships in their storied history and the Cats were still over a decade away from joining a power conference.

College Football Hall of Famer Woody Hayes was at the helm for three of those National Titles, but the Cats were not intimidated by Hayes that afternoon at the Horseshoe.

Thanks to rushing touchdowns by Wayne Edmunds and Bruce Lee (not that Bruce Lee), the Cats held a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

Arizona’s defense came up big by shutting out the Buckeyes in the second half and the Wildcats held on for at the time, one of the greatest wins in school history

It was one of the few highlights from that season. The Cats finished 3-6-1. The Buckeyes had a bad season by Ohio State standards when they finished 6-3.

The next season Hayes’ crew would settle the ship and win their fifth National Championship.
