Wildcats fans love Scooby Wright; He’s humble, he’s talented, he’s driven, he’s the leader of our football team and most importantly he is ours, he’s a Wildcat.
Early in the game, when the camera panned to our defensive leader and star Scooby Wright sitting on the bench with ice on his knee, chin in his palm, looking very gloomy and terribly frustrated..our hearts sank.
The Pac-12 camera folks couldn’t get enough though, so every other minute they flashed back to Scooby sitting on that bench alone..I wanted to go sit next to him and put my arm around him, surely it was going to be okay.
The next shot was of Scooby standing in front of the first row talking to his folks. It’s always better when these types of things happen to have your family there with you, so thank goodness for that.
You’ve seen a ton of reports regarding Scooby Wright’s injury. The Injury took him out of the game last night and resulted in our Wildcat hero to limp back on the field in street clothes using a cane. Good news Wildcats fans! It’s NOT season ending! ESPN College Football confirmed:
We are still concerned of course, we want to know if there’s any more information on how he’s doing, how long he’s projected to be out, and how serious the injury really is.
We are all just going to have to wait just a couple more days. According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, “Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is expected to give an update on Wright on Monday, a school spokesman said.”
Scooby wasn’t the only player injured yesterday, or may not be playing in the next game.
Anthony Gimino of TodaysU.com advises us that the Arizona Wildcats football program is not panicking. But then points out that there were more injuries for Arizona than just Scooby Wrights:
"Wright went out in the first quarter. Starting left tackle Freddie Tagaloa didn’t play because of an undisclosed injury. Cornerback Cam Denson had to leave the game. Three players had already been lost for the season during camp due to injury. Receivers Trey Griffey and Tyrell Johnson didn’t suit up because of injury. Three others — starting receiver Samajie Grant, starting safety Tellas Jones and backup defensive tackle Anthony Fotu — were suspended for the opener because of a violation of team rules."
I tried very hard not to panic while reading this paragraph in his post, even though I was aware of 90% of the facts, having them explained all in a couple of sentences kind of hit me hard and I almost started looking for the panic button. Gimino also advised that Scooby’s dad said it wasn’t a major injury.
It helps that the coach and the team kept it all together during the game and ended up winning by 10 points. Arizona had already lost a few players before their first kick-off of the season: Cody Ippilito, Trevor Woods, Carter Woods, and Antonio Parks. So the team had some practice regrouping.

I’m sure there were players deeper in the depth chart that were dying to get a chance to play, and Coach Rich Rod expected them to step up if needed. Fortunately, they did step up and a lot of them got a chance to play last night. That’s a good thing.
Coach Rodriguez spoke about Scooby’s injury in his post game interview, “He’s getting an MRI tonight, our training staff is very good, our medical people are going to check his knee out, don’t think its bad, ACL or MCL or whatever, I hate to speculate, we’ll see what happens.”
Initially Rich Rod thought Scooby was suffering from shin splints..here is a great post game video care of AZCentral.com:
Update: Head Coach Rich Rodriguez press conference care of Sports Writer Brad Allis of CBS Sports (Arizona.247sports.com) gave us a realistic view of the situation in his update:
"Rodriguez suggested that Wright would come back as soon as possible, there has been some sources that indicate the family is encouraging him to be conservative with his return.“Knowing Scooby he will be chomping at the bit,” Rodriguez said. “We’ll make sure, the trainers will make sure, that he will come back 100%.”"
Here’s more of Coach Rich Rod comments from the press conference via KVOA Sports Writer Richie Melby:
"“He’s out a month, three to four weeks, whatever, his scope went well. So hopefully we’ll get him back in a few weeks.”“We rallied pretty good, unfortunately it was kind of sad to see him go but I think the guys stepped up, especially young guys. They made a couple key plays and stayed together.”"
Anthony Gimino spoke with Scooby’s dad Phil, Phillip Wright II here is an excerpt from his article of their conversation:
"“He’s like, ‘Dad, it’s time to get back to the football facility,'” Phil Wright told TucsonNewsNow.com on Monday afternoon after he returned home to northern California. “I drove him to campus, he got out of the car, put the crutches over his shoulder and off he went.“I dropped him off this morning before I flew out and he was talking about doing the water treadmill today.”“No one will rehab better than Scoob,” Phil Wright said. “I’m sure these few weeks will be longer than what he is going to want.”"
ZonaZealots wants to wish Scooby Wright a quick recovery and wish him the best of everything. He gives so much to the University, the team and the fans, we wish there was something we could give him back, like a quick cure and a big hug.
Beardown Scooby!
