Arizona Football suffered a substantial loss to their defense, after veteran linebacker Derrick Turituri has decided to leave the program.

More from Wildcats Football

The Wildcat defense can’t seem to catch a break, especially at linebacker. Derrick Turituri’s announcement to exit the football program appears to be an unfortunate pattern Arizona fans are becoming far too accustomed too.

Since head coach Rich Rodriguez has taken over the program at Arizona, the roster has been a bit of a revolving door. Granted this kind of turnover tends to happen at a number of colleges around the country, but Arizona’s misfortunes seem to be all too common.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon , and it certainly is never a good thing to hear of a kid leaving the program, especially one like Turituri.

While not much is known currently in regards to Turituri’s reason for leaving the program, we can only assume that this is a result of a number of injuries he has suffered in his career while at Arizona. Remember, Turituri missed most of last years season due to a hip injury he had sustained early in the year.

Although the departure of Turituri is unfortunate, it perhaps doesn’t come as much of surprise, since it was believed he likely wouldn’t have played this year. So while this isn’t a blow to this years’ team, he is certainly a veteran player who could have had an impact in 2017.

While in his career at Arizona, Turituri was known for his tough, aggressive play, and indeed served as a complementary piece alongside fellow linebackers Scooby Wright and DeAndre’ Miller. He was recruited from Crater High School in Central Point, OR.

Here were his stats at Arizona.
