Arizona Football: Commit BJ Casteel easily slips through defenders
Arizona Football commit WR BJ Casteel will wow you, his confidence speed and versatility are pretty impressive.
BJ Casteel ( or Brian Casteel J r.)is a native Californian who plays several positions on his Charter Oaks high school team; wide receiver, corner-back, running back and defensive back. When he gets the ball in his hands, he runs towards the end zone like lightning shedding and outrunning defenders as he reaches his destination. That’s our new nickname for this versatile athlete: Lightening.

Casteel is a two-time All-Area selection who had offers from San Diego State, Nevada, Washington State, UNLV, Colorado State and more. His stats are awe-inspiring:
2015- As a Junior: Caught 57 passes for 913 yards and nine touchdowns on offense. On defense, he racked up 46 tackles and three interceptions. He earned over 100 yards in offense or more in seven games.
2014- As a Sophomore: Completed 65 receptions for 1,279 total yards and 11 touchdowns.
BJ has a very tight family. “I live with both of my parents; my mom is Cynthia Casteel and dad is Brian Casteel. I have two older sisters Breyona Casteel and Nakeshia Casteel. They both have been through high school already, so I’m the only one still in school,” he said, “I have two dogs Pup and Niko they have been with me since I was born.” Both of his sisters ran track in high school.
We wondered when BJ made his decision throughout the recruiting process, “After about an hour into my second unofficial visit,” said BJ, “I talked with my family and told them this is the right place for me, and I was on the field.”

BJ explained what convinced him to commit to Arizona, “I loved the campus and the people and how they treat each other like family all the time, that’s what most got me most.”
Brian is dialed in, focused on the prize, and he’s always representing, “I can’t wait just to be a wildcat!”

When you ask recruits who the like to emulate, they will usually mention an NFL player, but not BJ. He is paying attention to his future Pac-12 opponents. “Right now is Juju Smith-Schuster because I have a similar body type as him. I’m just not as big yet, and I see myself being like him.”
Casteel stands 6-feet tall and weighs 190 pounds. He is faster than anyone on the field with him. How does he do it? “When the ball is snapped as I am running my route,” he said, “I read the defense, so I already know where to go to get open.”

The most important thing his high school coaches taught him is to “Turn the page when something doesn’t go your way.” Right before a kick-off, BJ points to the sky.
We already mentioned that Casteel plays four positions: WR, CB, RB, and DB. But which position will he play at Arizona? “They like my versatility. I like WR and DB the most, but I haven’t decided, I will go wherever they tell me to and try my best,” explained BJ.
When Brian is not playing football, he is playing video games. If you think he would mostly be playing Madden Football, you’d be wrong, “Actually, I play NBA 2K16 the most!” He plans on attending Arizona Basketball games when he gets to Tucson, “I heard they’re very fun.”
We will look forward to BJ’s post-game celebrations after a win, we hear he is a pretty good dancer, and Lord knows, you can never have enough good dancers on the football field. Better yet, offensive players who dance around defenders. To get pumped up before each game, he does have a ritual, “I listen to all rap. I listen to a lot of Future because his songs hype me up before a game.”
Brian told us he thinks his friends and teammates would describe him as a humble leader. As for who inspires him in life, “My Dad because he teaches me a lot and he takes care of the family and provides us with what we need.”
