As we have been updating you throughout this year, Arizona Football is bringing in a myriad of talented players, and here is your chance to meet Wildcat Football commit, Cody Shear.

Still months away from signing day, the Arizona Wildcats already seem to have their 2017 recruiting class nearly done. At Zona Zealots, we are excited to bring you an exclusive interview with one of those Wildcat commits, Cody Shear.

The big, burly offensive linemen out of Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon, reached out to us to break down his current high school season, the relationship he has built with Arizona, and what ultimately helped him choose the Cats!

Cody, of course, picked the Wildcats back in July, despite a handful of offers from Boise State, BYU, and Washington State among others. As he progresses through his Senior year, he certainly can’t wait to be a Wildcat.

First things first, we asked Cody about his position or positions in High School and what position he will play as a Wildcat. “I am an offensive lineman,” said Cody, “I play left tackle and D-end at Sheldon but will probably transition to an interior offensive line position at the next level because I am 6’4. Usually, tackles in the pac12 are taller. So center or Guard.” Bottom line, Cody is a versatile athlete.

Currently in his final season at Sheldon High School, the Irish are currently sitting at 2-0, and Shear feels they are having a great start to the season so far. “Last night was our second game so we are definitely starting to gel well as a group and our chemistry is only going to grow as the season progresses.”

The competitive Shear and his teammates certainly seem to have high expectations for themselves, and after a nice run that helped the Irish to a 10-2 record last year, why not? In 2016, he is hoping to find similar success, and perhaps even more.

By looking at the roster, his team certainly has talent, and Shear feels the same way. “We have a lot of weapons on the DL as well as our skill positions and because of that, we are confident that we can make a good run this year. As long as we follow the path that our coaches are guiding us, things will play out the right way.”

Shear is using his senior year to really set himself up for success when he finally comes to Arizona. “Right now my focus is on playing as hard as I possibly can for the Irish, that being said I am so excited about Arizona!”

“The relationship I have with the coaches (Coach Michalczik in particular) is unbeatable.”

The Wildcats were very aggressive in his recruitment, and that work definitely paid off, as Shear fell in love with Arizona. “The relationship I have with the coaches (Coach Michalczik in particular) is unbeatable. I really feel like the style of play that the Wildcats run on offense is a good match for me, and it resembles the offense that my team and I are running at Sheldon.”

Still months away from officially arriving in Tucson, Shear is eager in wanting to see the Old Pueblo.  “I’ve never seen a game played at Arizona Stadium. I can already tell that it is a special place to play. Having the opportunity to play In front of the Arizona fans and ZonaZoo is a dream come true.”

The Wildcats easily got a great piece to add to their recruiting class, and as we all know, you can certainly never have enough big guys opening up holes for Arizona’s potent spread offense.

Shear possesses a large frame, and the footwork and athleticism to go along with that will make him a perfect addition to the 2017 class.

You can tell from his film he has talent, and the fieriness he plays with will compliment that Hard Edge mantra that coach Rich Rodriguez preaches and loves.
