Another day, another coach on Arizona Football’s staff headed elsewhere, this time it’s special teams coach Charlie Ragle.

It appears Arizona Football is in the business of replacing coaches. Every school has to deal with this phenomenon, usually right after signing day, but the Wildcats will now have to replace two coaches.

Most recently FootballScoope.com announced that Arizona’s special teams and tight ends coach Charlie Ragle would be leaving in addition to Tony Dews who is on his way to West Virginia. Ragle is the Cats seventh coach replaced in the last two seasons.

On Monday, social media was buzzing over the impending departure of Ragle. He had initially joined the Wildcats staff in 2012, when head coach Rich Rodriguez came to Tucson, making the transition from high school football, to college. So this coach got his start in college football at Arizona for Rodriguez.

More from Wildcats Football

Now after five years of coaching at the division one level, it appears more careers moves are being made, as Coach Ragle is heading to Pac-12 rival Cal Berkeley.

This is now the third coach that Rodriguez will have to replace from the 2016 staff including Donte’ Williams. It’s the second coach in just the past few days.

Seemingly tough news for the Arizona Football program and interim AD Erica Barnes who has her hands full. We are just a few weeks away from Spring Football starting so this adds a bit more pressure now that Rodriguez will be tasked with replacing his third coach this offseason.

Not sure what the timeline is, but it will be interesting to see which route he may go. Ragle was a well-respected coach among the players, and a dynamic recruiter, responsible for recruiting athletes such as Michael Eletise, Cam Denson, My-King Johnson and Jalen Harris among others. He has ties in Phoenix, and that certainly helped Arizona in recruiting.

Zona Zealots offered up some ideas for Dews replacement, but will need to see how this all shakes out moving forward. Rich Rodriguez could use this time to reorganize or just plain replace both spots. It will be interesting to see who Arizona can land on the offensive coaching staff.

Special teams were often criticized by fans last season, so maybe there is a silver lining here. When one door closes, another opens, and that goes for Arizona Football as well.

Also, it will be great to be able to see more plays involving tight ends in Tucson, but we have no idea if that will be something that will change with a new tight ends coach.

We certainly would like to wish Coach Ragle the best as he continues his coaching career and hope he finds immense success at Cal, just not when they are up against the Wildcats. Bear Down, Arizona!
