The Arizona Wildcats Baseball teams continued their perfect season with a series sweep and 12-5 win over McNeese State.
Coming back from behind this season has been nothing new for the Arizona Wildcats Baseball team. They did it again against McNeese State Cowboys to complete the series sweep and to improve their overall record to 8-0. Junior outfielder Jared Oliva led the Wildcats with two hits and a three-run homer.
The No. 7th ranked team in the country showed why they deserve to be at the top of the standings. They were down early in the second inning 4-0, due to some early errors, which didn’t rattle the Cats from clawing their way back into this one.

The Wildcats began their comeback in the second inning, with a single by Mitchell Morimoto that drove in a run. In the following inning, Oliva hit a three-run home to tie the game up at 4-4, and one more run was scored by Cameron Cannon, after Alfonso Rivas was walked. By the seventh inning, the game was all tied up at 5-5, and that’s when the Wildcats turned up the heat!
It all started with Olivia who had a double early on. He ended up with two in the same inning! Adding to the “double club” was Cal Stevenson, who brought in a run. Cesar Salazar and JJ Mattijevic contributed with additional hits, bringing in more runs. By the time everything was said and done in the seventh inning, the Wildcats had a 12-5 lead over the Cowboys!
The Cowboys ended up using three different pitchers in the seventh inning, which couldn’t slow the Wildcats down. Great hitting, key defense plays and strong pitching by the Wildcats, (highlighted by Juan Aguilera who had a two-inning scoreless performance) – were the key differences in the game. At the top of the eighth inning, the game ended due to a plane curfew – or maybe the Cowboys just couldn’t take it anymore!
