Amidst the bad news in Arizona Athletics, a bit of good news broke for the Arizona Football team, as they will receive an indoor practice facility.

Ask, and thou shall receive. It has been a few years since Arizona Football head coach Rich Rodriguez has asked for an indoor practice facility, and it seems that wish will come true.

On Wednesday, news broke via social media, that the Athletic Department put forth plans into building the new indoor practice facility, and that the project should start April 2018, and conclude November 2018.

If approved by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), this would be huge for the football team, as this could be a vital piece in strengthening their recruiting efforts.

As it stands, Arizona is one of the very few programs in the Pac-12 without one. Here in the Southwest, it is becoming vital.

When football starts in early August, temperatures are still in the low to mid 100s. That’s hot! While the weather is not the sole challenge in recruiting to Tucson, we assure you it also doesn’t help, as kids don’t want to necessarily practice in that heat.

It also helps in practicing through monsoon season as well, as the coaches don’t have to work around the unpredictable rain.

Should the practice facility be approved, this is a great move by the University of Arizona. While it won’t solve all of our problems and deficiencies in recruiting for football, can’t help but think this will have a positive impact once completed.

Call the athletes weak for wanting these “perks,” but the reality is we are not out there playing and training in the hot heat, and we are also not Division 1 athletes putting ourselves through the grind of everyday competition. ASU has one, so should the Cats!

The indoor facilities are the trend in college athletics, and for Arizona, it just makes sense. Heck, even our rivals have one!

One former Wildcat thinks Rich Rod won’t use the facility unless there are monsoons…because Wildcats aren’t wimps!

At Zona Zealots, we are excited by the move, and only hope the ABOR approves the plans moving forward! Bear Down, Arizona!
