The Arizona Baseball team is getting ready to start their 2017-18 season with a intrasquad scrimmage schedule in style.

World class! Arizona Wildcat baseball proved this past off season, with the completion of an elite hitting facility, that they are a world class college baseball program. Returners from last season and incoming freshman will get to be part of this new era in Wildcat baseball.

More from Wildcats Baseball

In an age of college sports where in order to stay competitive you must provide athletes with the state of the art facilities – Hi Corbett field has now done that! Having the latest and greatest inside the locker room. Out on the field, it gives players the extra competitive edge during the college baseball season.

What made the practice hitting facility possible, was a $1 million dollar donation by Terry Francona early this past year. In return, the Wildcats have named it in his honor – the Terry Francona Hitting Facility. Not only was the hitting facility added in right field, the Wildcats also received a complete renovation of the clubhouse:

Arizona Baseball equipment manager Zac Cook shared his excitement about the updates:

In addition to the Hi Corbet upgrade, three other sports are getting stadium upgrades as part of the University’s $66 million Capital Improvement Plan:

  • New indoor sports center that will be used for multiple sports
  • Arizona Stadium updates
  • Hillenbrand Softball Stadium updates
  • Hillenbrand Aquatic Center updates

Coach Jay Johnson’s team last season set the bar quite high, leading the Pac-12 in mostly every hitting category. He would love to see his team take the next step come post season. This year’s Wildcat baseball team will include return power hitters Cal Stevenson, Mitchell Morimoto, Alfonso Rivas and Nick Quintana aka The Flow!

The intrasquad scrimmage will be made up of 18 games and run through Nov. 19th. The first game is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th at 6pm at Hi Corbett Field – go check it out!
