For a third consecutive week, Arizona Quarterback Khalil Tate will bring home the Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Arizona Football quarterback Khalil Tate achieved something no Pac-12 player has in the last 29 years. For the first time since 1988 (USC’s Rodney Peete), Tate was awarded the Pac-12 Football Offensive Player of the Week for three weeks in a row.
Three weeks ago, when Khalil Tate took over for an injured Brandon Dawkins during the Colorado game, nobody could have predicted what we have seen. Since that game, we have all witnessed Khalil Tate do things not many other QB’s have done in college football. Scratch that, things that NO college quarterback has ever done. Not even some of the best names to ever play college football have ever run for the yardage he has in this three-game stretch.
For Zona Zealots, this is not a surprise. We all knew that Tate had talent, many of us had even stated that he should have been starting games earlier than he did. Could the team possibly be 7-0? That’s an answer that will never be answered, but always something fans will question.
After an unbelievable game against California, one that saw Arizona win 45-44 in double overtime, Khalil Tate was once again named the Offensive Player of the Week for the Pac-12 conference.
In the match-up of divisional rivals, Tate finished the game completing 10-15, for 166 yards and two touchdowns, including this beautiful throw to Bryce Wolma which wound up being the game-winning score.

Here are some tidbits from the Pac-12 press release from David Hirsch:
"• In his second start of the season, Tate led Arizona to a thrilling 45-44 double-overtime victory at California.• The sophomore totaled 303 yards of offense and three touchdowns.• Produced a third-straight 100-yard rushing game with 137 yards on 17 carries, including a career-long 76-yard touchdown run.• Completed 10-of-15 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, the last a 22-yard completion in the second overtime which, with the subsequent extra point kick, was the winning score.• Tate has three runs of at least 70 yards in three consecutive game"
On the defensive side of the ball, Arizona LB, Colin Schooler took home Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Schooler not only broke up Cal’s two-point winning conversion in double overtime, but he also topped his teammates in the stats with 15 total tackles, seven solos:
Player (Starter) | TotTk | Solo | Sack | TFL | Int | BrUp | QBH | FF |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Schooler, C. (WILL) | 15 | 7 | 0 | 1.5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
The true freshman forced a fumble and according to the Pac-12, was credited with one quarterback hurry. Schooler helped his Wildcats to their first-ever road overtime win in program history.
