Arizona would strike early in this one, taking the opening kickoff and driving it 75 yards to take a 7-0 lead, after senior running back Nick Wilson punched it in from the one-yard line.
Tate and the Wildcats would keep the pressure on early, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, as Tate also nearly had 100 yards rushing.
The Wildcats would continue it’s dominance in the first half, limiting the Beavers, and scoring at will. At halftime, Arizona led 28-0, with 329 yards rushing. Tate had 121.
Oregon State would get things going offensively in the second half, scoring back-to-back touchdowns in their first two series’ of the second half.
Luckily for the Wildcats, Arizona would continue its dominance, especially on the ground, as Tate would add a 71-yard touchdown run to make it 35-7 early in the second half. That would mark his fifth run of 70 yards or more on the season, as well as his eleventh rushing touchdown.
Offensively, the Beavers would find a bit of rhythm against the young, Wildcats’ defense, making the game a bit more competitive. However, Arizona would have a comfortable lead heading into the fourth quarter, and would replace Tate for Brandon Dawkins. This would be Dawkins’ first action since being injured versus Colorado.
Dawkins would finish the night with three rushes for 30 yards and a touchdown! The Wildcats would pace themselves to a 49-28 victory on senior night!
Despite the stellar performances of Tate and J.J. Taylor, senior running backs Wilson and Zach Green deserve a ton of credit in this one, as Wilson finished with 17 carries, 101 yards and a touchdown and Green finished with four carries 16 yards and two touchdowns respectively.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-3 (5-2) on the season. Also, after beating OSU, the Wildcats guaranteed themselves a winning record not only on the season, but in the Pac-12 as well!
Arizona will have just two games left on the regular season, both on the road, as they travel to Eugene, OR next week to take on the Ducks, and rival ASU the following week in Tempe, AZ. Both games should be tough tests for the Wildcats, but are indeed winnable.
