Kevin Sumlin having Immediate Impact on Arizona Recruiting

After officially being hired as the Wildcats head coach on Sunday, Kevin Sumlin’s presence is already being felt for Arizona recruiting.

It has been a whirlwind of action here for the Arizona Football team these past few weeks. With former head coach Rich Rodriguez out at Arizona, former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has become the new man in charge in Tucson.

As he was officially introduced by the University of Arizona on Tuesday, it appears he’s already getting some work done for the program.

A man considered to not only be a good coach, but a good recruiter, the latter is seemingly paying off early on. While it’s always difficult to make the transition from one head coach to the other, but whether by coincidence or not, Sumlin’s presence so far is helping in a lot of ways.

As the rumors were buzzing that Sumlin was Arizona’s man on Sunday afternoon, current players, commits, and recruits were taking notice on social media.

One player perhaps impacted is Jamarye Joiner, the standout quarterback from Cienega High School in Vail, AZ.

Considered by some as the ‘crowning jewel’ of the class according to 247Sports, he also has the highest rating of all the Wildcat commits. He also remains as one of the few unsigned commits at this point.

As the past week has unfolded, there has been plenty of worry regarding the strength of his commitment to Arizona. He has been committed the longest compared to the rest of the class, and there was always the concern he could flip his pledge, especially following the transition from Rich Rodriguez.

The offers came rolling in late, but were indeed there to make him really think about this decision. First it came from Nebraska, then came UCF as more visits were being lined up.

There was definitely concern in whether he would end up in a Wildcats uniform. Well, much like everyone else after the Sumlin hiring, perhaps it had enough of an impact on Jamarye, to shut down his recruitment, and reaffirm his pledge to Arizona!

That is great news for Wildcats fans, as Joiner is a talent, and has surely been a stand out player at Cienega the past few years. Whether Sumlin’s hire did indeed impact is to be determined, but regardless, having Joiner committed is huge!

One thing for sure is other recruits are taking notice!
