Nick Foles: Breaks records, 1st Arizona Football quarterback to play in a Superbowl
Former Arizona Football quarterback Nick Foles, the first ever, is going to the Superbowl, but not without breaking more records along the way.
The NFL fans and media thought former Arizona Football quarterback Nick Foles was done, a dud, not worth discussing, forecasted to fail at playing quarterback once again for the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, they were wrong, weren’t they? They have been wrong before.
Foles got his chance this season when Carson Wentz went down with an injury in Philly’s week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams. Eagles fans and media were not complimentary towards the former Wildcat, you can blame Jeff Fisher ironically. Fisher never really gave Foles a chance before he cut him. ZZ kept up with the powerful passer who is cool under the collar in pressure situations through his ups and downs. So seeing Foles perform like and show the world that hard work and not giving up can result in national success this made us deliriously happy.

Foles led the Eagles for the rest of the season into the playoffs winning the next two out of three games and losing only to Dallas in the last game. Note: The Eagles rested six starters in the 0-6 loss to the Cowboys.
Foles led the Eagles over the Atlanta Falcons, last seasons Super Bowl losers, to win a bid for the NFL Championship.Foles threw 246 yards and garnered a 100.1 quarterback rating against the Falcons. Even though the Eagles won by only five points (15-10), the fans were hopeful with their new quarterback. Foles and the Eagles (13-3) did not disappoint; they moved on to play the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL Championship at home. And Foles was the first QB to win a playoff game after ten quarterbacks when starting in three or fewer games in the regular season.
The Eagles did not come into the Championship game as a favorite because they were going up against the best defense in the NFL. But they tuned out the negativity and ram rolled (excuse the pun) over the Vikings 38-7.
Foles threw for 352 yards making 26 of 33 passes (78.8% pass completion) and three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Eagles win that sends the Eagles to the 2018 Superbowl. And former Wildcat Will Parks was there in person with his dad to witness Foles record-breaking performance. He said it was the first time he has attended an NFL game in his life as a fan.

Fun Fact: Since 2000, only Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Matt Ryan have had 300+ yards games with three touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s quite a list! Foles is already in the NFL Hall of Fame for most touchdowns made in one game (seven).

Foles broke a record for the highest QB Rating in a playoff game at 141.4. The Eagles O-Line and receivers should get a ton of credit when you talk about how well Foles is playing. Foles was dropping dimes to Eagles receivers Torrey Smith, Zach Ertz and Alshon Jeffery to name a few.
Foles also earned the highest passer rating of any quarterback passing rating in the season at 122.1 over Alex Smith (116.2), Ben Roethlisberger (110.5), Cam Newton (105.1) and Tom Brady (105) who he will face on Feb. 4th on Superbowl Sunday. Interesting to note, Brady was also an underrated quarterback, drafted 199th overall pick in the sixth round of 2000 NFL Draft. Look where he is now his ninth Super Bowl appearance!
That wasn’t the only record he broke, Foles broke more records and hopefully has now silenced the critics (Via John Clark NCBS Philadelphia):
- 352 yards most by Eagles QB this season
- Set new Eagles playoff record 79% completions after 77% last week
- Only Eagles QB to have three straight playoff games with 100+ rating
- Four passes of 36+ yards most by Vikings in their playoff history
NFL analyst Will Blackmon (Redskins) was surprised that Foles could throw a 50-yard bomb, called his passes “gorgeous” and “incredible” and “hot.” Was impressed with his performance. James Jones (Greenbay) made sure the conversation included the offensive line for blocking and protecting for Foles.
“I haven’t even had time to comprehend what is gone on, to be honest,” said Foles post game on the NFL Channel, “I don’t, I don’t know if I ever will, it’s just like unbelievable. When I was up on that stage, that’s something you dream about as a kid, just being in the magnitude of this game and for us to come out as a team and put together a great performance, I mean that’s something really special.”
Foles Head Coach, Doug Pederson, also said it hadn’t sunk in, but did say that the Eagles love being around each other and that they don’t pay attention to negativity. After the game, according to NFL Analyst James Palmer, Foles went up to coach Pederson and reminded him that he was the only coach in the 2012 draft that came and worked him out. Coach Pederson felt that set the groundwork for their relationship.

The Eagles fans shoved it right in the Vikings faces as they used the Vikings Skol chant and hand signs and changed the chant to “Foles.”

Philadelphia Eagles fans are some of the toughest around, but we think that Foles has won them over.
Drafted by the Eagles in 2012 as the 88th overall pick in the third round by Chip Kelly (new UCLA Head Coach), Nick Foles will be the FIRST EVER Arizona Football alumni Quarterback to play in the Superbowl. Kelly knew how prolific Foles was in college, he had to coach against him and then Arizona Head Coach Mike Stoops in Pac-12 play.

The year that Arizona hires coach Kevin Sumlin, Arizona’s former QB, a Mike Stoops recruit, will play in the Superbowl. You would think Philadelphia professional teams will always look to Tucson first for their future pro’s now that TJ McConnell and Foles are giving them what they want.
