Arizona Baseball star pitcher Bobby Dalbec has had himself quite a year in the Carolina League this season.
Bobby Dalbec once was the heart and soul of the Arizona baseball team and now it taking the minor leagues by storm. The same heart and determination that made him so valuable while putting on the Wildcat uniform has propelled him to a stellar year in 2018. It could be very soon that Bobby Dalbec could hear his name echo through Fenway Park.
While in high school, Bobby Dalbec attended Legend High School in Parker, Colorado. While playing for his high school team his took the field as either a pitcher or at shortstop. Due to his strong commitment to the University of Arizona, there was no MLB team that took a chance on him.
Upon arriving in Tucson, he gave the Wildcats options as he could play multiple positions such as third base, first base along with being a relief pitcher out of the bullpen. As a freshman, he was selected to National Collegiate Athletic Association Home Run Derby.
His sweet swing followed Bobby into his sophomore year at Arizona as he clubbed 15 homers. While junior year didn’t go as planned it didn’t take long for Bobby to bounce back. In his senior year, he led the Cats to the College World Series in 2016.
Arizona Wildcats
This passion and stick with it attitude got him recognized by the Boston Red Sox who took him in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB draft. In his first season, he carried his momentum right into the start of his professional career with the Lowell Spinners. He went on to hit .386 batting average with seven homers and driving in 33 RBI’s in only 34 games.
In 2017 there was no rest for opposing pitchers as Bobby continued to wear them out. While playing with the Greenville Drive, he hit .246 batting average accompanied by 13 homers and 39 RBI’s in 79 games.
Bobby continued to work hard in the offseason and it all came to fruition this year while playing in the Carolina League where he was the premier slugger. At the young age of 23 and playing the hot corner of third base. Bobby finished the season with league highs with 26 home runs, 55 extra base hits, 85 RBI’s all while having a .573 slugging percentage. These accumulated stats into earning the honors of winning “Carolina League’s MVP”. With this being said, Bobby has now ranked the 6th best prospect in the Red Sox organization.
