Up to No. 14 in the country, the Arizona Hockey team (12-3) returns to action for a busy weekend at the Tucson Convention Center.

After another successful weekend, the Arizona Hockey team progresses through the 2018-19 season in preparation for another busy weekend.

Who says hockey can’t be played in the desert? Now in his sixth season in Tucson, head coach Chad Berman has the ‘Ice Cats’ clicking on all cylinders.

Early on, Arizona has gotten off to another solid start. This past weekend, the Wildcats continued their solid play, extending their winning streak to three games.

In front of another hockey hungry crowd at the Tucson Convention Center, Arizona first took on Maryville, a small Division II school from St. Louis, MO.

The beginning of the weekend action first kicked-off on Thursday in a 7:30 showdown against the Saints.

From the start, it was all Wildcats. Arizona first went up 1-0 on a goal from Keelan Ulnick. Not long after, it was Arizona defense man Devon Langelaar joining the scoring party to make it 2-0 Arizona just before the end of the first period.

The Wildcats would add another goal in the second period to make it 3-0. However, the third period is when the Wildcats would explode on offense, accounting for three more goals to secure the 6-1 victory.

After a brief day off, Arizona returned to action on Saturday to finish off their two-game series against Maryville.

From the get go, it was the Wildcats coming out with a strong performance. Ulnick once again got the scoring going early, putting Arizona ahead 1-0. Unfortunately, the Saints would respond quickly, tying the game at 1-1.

Maryville would come right back and score another goal to make it 1-2 to take the lead, albeit briefly. Luckily, the Wildcats would tie it, and then retake the lead not long after.

Ulnick would add another goal in this one, extending Arizona’s lead to 4-2. But Arizona’s scoring wasn’t done. Just before the third period, Arizona forward Christopher Westlund would secure the win with an impressive goal to make it 5-2.

Sunday would be their final game of the weekend against Grand Canyon for Military Appreciation night. From the start, the Wildcats got off to an early lead. Tied at 0-0, Arizona would score just before the end of the first period to make it 1-0.

A busy second period would leave both squads knotted at 2-2 at the end of it.

Looking to come away victorious, the Wildcats and Lopes wouldn’t be able to put one in the net in the third and final period.

Heading to extras, it was just a matter of time until one team came away winners. Not long into overtime, forward Wildcat Bayley Marshall found the back of the net to give the Wildcats the 3-2 win!

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-3, as we near the halfway point of the season. Their next weekend action starts on Thursday, when they face off with Arkansas, followed by two games against Missouri State on Friday and Saturday!
