Arizona Basketball: Wildcats in the Pros, who and where are they now?
By David Rosen
Miles Simon
Simon says championship! More then 21 years later Miles Simon has joined the coaching ranks alongside another former Wildcat Luke Walton. On June 27, 2017 he was announced as the new assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Talk about perfect timing. Less than a week later, one of the greatest players of all time Lebron James announced he would be joining the Lakers. Simon helps to coach The King if that’s even possible. If you were to tell me that was to happen 10 years ago I would think your nuts!
Recently there was a scare with Simon being taken out on a stretcher during a preseason game. Later on it would be reported that he was diagnosed with pneumonia and would be day to day according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN . Since then there haven’t been any other incidents.
Playing under the legendary Coach Lute Olson at Arizona, Simon and Walton gained a lot of knowledge about the game of basketball and fundamentals. Somewhere Coach Olson is smiling and couldn’t be happier seeing his former players coach in the NBA.

Another former Arizona Wildcat, Jesse Mermuys, who was the Arizona Wildcat basketball director of operations in 2006, has been an assistant coach with the Lakers since 2016.
Not done there, former Wildcat Isaiah Fox, who was an assistant coach for the Lakers G-League affiliate D-Fenders in 2017, is now an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers.
