After nearly a month-long break, No. 7 Arizona Hockey (17-3) returns to the ice to take on Grand Canyon University this weekend!

It’s been a long few weeks since the Arizona Hockey team was last on the ice. After taking a break during finals and the holidays, the Wildcats will finally return to take on Grand Canyon this weekend at the Tucson Convention Center.

When we last left off, Arizona was on a roll, winners of eight-straight and climbing to as high as sixth in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) division one rankings. During the Wildcats’ winning streak, Arizona has beaten some good teams, even sweeping ASU… again!

While the team has surely been playing well this season, they will look to continue their winning ways against the visiting Antelopes this weekend. The last time these two teams met, the Wildcats won 3-2 in epic, overtime fashion.

At 13-3 on the year, the team has just 18 games remaining in the regular season, with a large contingency of those being home games.

In the 16 games played so far, the Wildcats have largely been led by the offensive play of forwards Bayley Marshall and Anthony Cusanelli. Together, the two have combined for 27 goals and 63 total points.

Additionally, Wildcat goalie Anthony Ciurro has been a stalwart between the pipes, having a 12-1 record, and giving up an average of just 1.43 goals per game. If that’s not impressive enough, he is saving the puck 94.8 percent of the time!

If Arizona is to return to the ACHA playoffs and make a deep run in the tournament, these guys are going to have to continue to play well as they have done so far.

Last season, the Wildcats made it to the ACHA playoffs as a 16-seed, before getting bounced by No. 1 Minot State in the second round. This year, they are hoping to surpass that mark.

The second-half to their season starts on Friday when they take to the ice at the TCC at 7:30 pm.
