CALGARY – After an injury-riddled NFL Career, former Wildcat star and Tucson-native Ka’Deem Carey, is finding success in football all the way in Canada!

It’s been a long and tumultuous road for former Wildcat Ka’Deem Carey. A legend in Tucson, Carey has been dazzling football spectators since an early age.

A standout at Tucson-area Canyon Del Oro High School, Carey leapt (literally) on to the football scene as a freshman, and never looked back. With the Dorados, Carey put up video game-like numbers in his career there, before ultimately heading to Arizona.

Playing sparingly his freshman year, Carey would finally find college stardom as a sophomore, becoming a prominent name in Division One college football for the next couple seasons. Following a terrific junior campaign, Carey would take his talents to the NFL, leaving Tucson as the schools’ all-time leading rusher.

However while in Chicago, Carey would last just three seasons with the Bears, appearing in 36 games, accumulating 443 yards rushing on 111 carries with two touchdowns. He would also have another 131 yards receiving with 13 catches for a touchdown.

Injuries, coaching changes, depth, etc. all factors that ultimately led to his career end in the Windy City. Since then, Carey has been doing his best to stay involved in the Tucson community, and actually signed with the Canadian Football team, the Calgary Stampeders last October.

Well, months later, he’s finally getting his chance to play, and the former Wildcat hasn’t disappointed thus far. Showing shades of his former self, Carey’s athleticism was on full display on Saturday, when the Calgary Stampeders took on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Lining up as an edge rusher on a punt return, Carey would get to the punter, block the punt, and grab the loose ball, returning it for a touchdown!

Carey would later add another touchdown on the day, when he would find the endzone from three yards out to tie the game at 23-23. Calgary would ultimately fall to Hamilton by a 31-23 final.

Ka’Deem would finish the day with three carries for six yards and a touchdown. He would also have another two receptions for 11 yards.

So far in 2019, Carey has amassed 69 yards rushing on 16 carries with two touchdowns, also adding another 36 yards receiving on five receptions in three games played! The Stampeders are 2-2 this season thus far.
