Arizona Football: Scooby Wright signs with the Patriots and puts a ring on it
It’s Monday, August 26th and we woke up to some great news regarding our former Arizona Football superstar, Scooby Wright.
The New England Patriots beat the favored Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in the Superbowl this year to become, once again, the NFL Champions. But they did something even more impressive this weekend, as they signed Arizona Football star Scooby Wright to a contract for the upcoming season.
Scooby always stays busy, and after a stint in the now defunct Alliance of American Football league, he was most recently working on finishing his University of Arizona degree.

On Sunday, the Patriots replaced one former Wildcat, by signing Scooby after they assigned injury designations to receiver Maurice Harris and defensive lineman Keionta Davis, as well as putting linebacker Brandon King on injured reserve after tearing a quadriceps.
As for us, we couldn’t be happier for Wright who was initially drafted by the Browns in 2016, before being picked up by the Arizona Cardinals and playing in 13 games.
Wright then signed with the AAF (Alliance of American Football league) team out of Tempe, the Arizona Hotshots, playing inside Sun Devil Stadium. The Heavens knew that was a bad call for the Wildcat, so when that door closed, the NFL came calling again, and Scooby answered.
Over the years, there have been some very well-known former Arizona Wildcats who also played for the Patriots (according to Justin Spears):
- Tedy Bruschi
- Rob Gronkowski (just retired)
- Richard Griffin
- Marquis Flowers
- Chris Singleton
Speaking of rings, as Scooby’s new adventure was just beginning this weekend, why should he go it alone? On Saturday, Scooby’s dad Philip captured the former Wildcat getting on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. Dad said he was “Bearing Down,” and rightly so.
We all know what Scooby is capable of, and he has shown that he can contribute in the NFL. Some times it’s just the team, the coach or the fit that gets an athlete playing time. If you haven’t been paying attention, Wright never stopped working his butt off. We have been following the decorated former NCAA star on Instagram, and he has been lifting weights and staying in tip-top shape.
Just a little reminder of what Wright accomplished in the NCAA, here is a list of the awards he earned:
- 2014 Bronko Nagurski Award;
- 2014 Chuck Bednarik Award;
- 2014 Consensus All-America;
- 2014 Pac-12; Defensive Player of the Year;
- 2014 Vince Lombardi Award
