No. 3 – Arizona knocks ASU out of the Rose Bowl Pt. 1

When: November 27, 1982

Outcome: Arizona won 28-18

Where: Tucson, AZ

Arguably one of the biggest wins in this rivalry in my opinion, the Sun Devils were coming into this one 9-1 after losing to Washington the week prior that ruined their hopes of an undefeated season and the program’s first ever national championship. Instead, Arizona got in the way, playing spoiler to the Devils’ in getting to the Rose Bowl.

Arizona quarterback Tom Tunnicliffe would play a terrific game, building a huge 26-0 lead as Arizona ultimately cruised to the 28-18 victory, officially spoiling the Devils’ hopes of a Rose Bowl.

Although the Wildcats would finish the season with a 6-4-1 record while missing a bowl game, beating ASU certainly made up for the misfortunes here and closed out the season on a high for Wildcats fans!
