Arizona Football recruiting class far from over on Early Signing Day
Early signing day can and went, and with numerous recruits signing with their respective schools, the Arizona Football recruiting class is far from over.
It was a busy day in the world of college athletics, as numerous recruits and commits signed with their respective schools. For the Arizona Football team, this was certainly no different, as a few recruits signed on Early Signing Day.
If you’ve been paying attention so far, you would have seen Arizona’s recruiting class begin to shape itself, however, things are still unsettled and certainly far from over.

Coming into Wednesday, the Cats had just 14 commitments in the class of 2020 (they added one more in Stacey Marshall, Jr.), with the expectation for Arizona to take a full class of 25 commits or possibly even more with early enrollments, grey shirts, blue shirts, etc. factored in.
As it stands, Arizona’s class now ranks 69th following the early signing period according to 247Sports which certainly doesn’t leave much to be desired.
Now granted, in all likelihood this class will improve once more players commit in the coming weeks, but there’s no doubting or escaping the fact that the outward perception of Arizona and its current state of recruiting is bad.
From first glance, there are a few things that can at least be explained. First off, while Arizona was trying to continue to piece together its recruiting class, the program has been on the recruiting trail without any defensive coordinator. That’s certainly a tough sell to any potential defensive recruits as they don’t know who their position coach would potentially be.
Even more challenging, is that it is an easy selling point to recruits of rival schools to Arizona. Any school competing for those same said recruits could simply use the fact that the Wildcats don’t have a defensive coordinator as a means of hurting Arizona’s chances.
Additionally, you can’t help but blame some of Arizona’s recent recruiting woes to the overall product on the field. After a 4-8 year in 2019, the team finished it’s second-straight losing season in a row, which was a program first since the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
When you quantify all that, the struggles are rather self explanatory, and it’s hard to deny that things looking bleak for the future to say the least.
Nonetheless, Arizona does have some time to turn things around somewhat, and there is an opportunity for the Wildcats to go up from here. It will be hard work, but it can be done, and the bright side is that this class is far from over.
At Zona Zealots, we’re intrigued to see where things go and whether Kevin Sumlin and Arizona can right the ship. We’re just glad their’s still a ways to go in recruiting for the Wildcats! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
