With Covid-19 still impacting sports across the world, it seems like we’re inching closer to a sense of normalcy, as Arizona Athletics will resume workouts on June 15.

Could we be getting closer and closer to returning to a sense of normalcy? Maybe, however it is hard to say, since we just don’t what the next few months will look like. However, one good sign is that Arizona Athletics can resume voluntary workouts on June 15.

Making news just days ago, it was announced that Arizona will be resuming workouts in the coming weeks.

If you may recall, we talked about this a couple weeks ago as the NCAA officially approved for schools to begin voluntary workouts.

Unfortunately while the NCAA was allowing for voluntary workouts to resume, the Pac-12 was still reviewing some things, and their timeline was possibly going to be pushed out a couple weeks.

Well, now we’ve learned that on June 15, Arizona will be one of the first schools in the conference that will allow for voluntary workouts. The date coincides with the conferences recommendation, and it’ll be a slow wave of getting student athletes back on campus.

As the school announced on Friday, the student athletes will return “in phases on a weekly basis”, but the priority will be for getting them back on campus and preparing them to compete in the upcoming fall sports (assuming seasons will go uninterrupted).

As noted by the school and by the Arizona Daily Star, the first group of student athletes will roughly be 20-23 players who are either local to Tucson, or that stayed in town when everything was essentially cancelled.

More athletes will then be allowed in the following weeks, with weightlifting groups being smaller to allow for ample distancing.

With the changes happening, things are going to be quite different moving forward, but it is a good sign to see some things resume back to being a bit normal. And right now, lord knows we could use some normalcy.

At Zona Zealots, while we still encourage for safety for the athletes, we are hoping things can get back to a little more normal. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
