While expectations may be low for Arizona Football, one good thing you should expect is a deep and talented backfield for the Wildcats.

It has been a long off-season for the Arizona Football program, and it has certainly been one that has been marred by lowly expectations, season delays, transfers, etc.

While that is not ideal, and fan excitement is low, there are some silver linings as we head into the season.

Now granted, I’m not typically one for trying to pretend everything is all hunky-dory for the Cats, nor trying to put a bow on everything and trying to find the silver lining, however, I do think there are at least a few positives with this program, one being the stable of running backs we have.

This past year the Wildcats lost their leader in J.J. Taylor to the NFL, where the former Wildcat standout made his way onto the New England Patriots’ roster this season.

So far, the former Cat has appeared in three games, rushing for 70 yards on 16 carries, while having one catch for four yards, three kick returns for 69 yards, and one punt return for 11 yards.

So where will the Wildcats see most of their production come from this season? Well, aside from pre-season Doak Walker Award nominee Gary Brightwell, the Wildcats will use a deep backfield.

Consisting of players like Michael Wiley who rushed for 106 yards on 31 carries, and Nathan Tilford who returns after rushing for 228 and four touchdowns, Arizona will also have talented freshmen Frank Brown and Jalen John to call upon as well.

Two of Arizona’s more highly regarded recruits in the class of 2020, already the two are drawing high praise and will certainly help supplement the loss of Bam Smith, who announced just weeks ago that he would be sitting out this season.

With the season just two weeks away, the Wildcats are gearing up for their game against Utah, making their final touches and preparations for the upcoming season.

And with Arizona still finalizing a few positions, newly hired running back coach AJ Steward is excited to be able to work with his Corp of backs this season!
