With the times changing in College Athletics, Arizona Athletics is staying relevant as they create the Arizona Edge program for their Student-Athletes.

2020 has been a rather strange and bizarre year for virtually everyone, and the same can certainly for Arizona Athletics as well.

Everything from season cancellations, postponements, etc. we’ve seen a lot this year in College Athletics. However, perhaps none bigger than the introduction of the Gonzalez-Cleaver NIL Bill.

In case you missed it, it was a Bill that was introduced to potentially change the rules around Student-Athletes regarding them profiting of their name, image and likeness.

Now granted nothing is official as of yet, and the rules have not changed, however, it is a step in the right direction in terms of the NCAA adapting their rules to catch up to 2020.

To recap, according to the NCAA, the rule changes would…

  • Allow student-athletes to use their name, image and likeness to promote camps and clinics, private lessons, their own products and services, and commercial products or services.
  • Allow student-athletes to be paid for their autographs and personal appearances.
  • Allow student-athletes to crowdfund for nonprofits or charitable organizations, catastrophic events and family hardships, as well as for educational expenses not covered by cost of attendance.
  • Allow student-athletes the opportunity to use professional advice and marketing assistance regarding name, image and likeness activities, as well as professional representation in contract negotiations related to name, image and likeness activities, with some restrictions.

So while we wait on whether this rule change will indeed be adopted, the University of Arizona is doing their best to stay ahead of this.

Making news via Social Media on Tuesday afternoon, was that the University introduced what they’re calling Arizona Edge program. A program that was built to assist Student-Athletes in developing their Name, Image, Likeness and more!

The move is a big one, and one you would have to think will speak volumes to student-athletes considering coming to Tucson.

It appears the University is doing their best to stay relevant, but also continuing to be innovative and adaptive during the everchanging landscape of college athletics.
