With the Arizona Football season drawing to a close, the Wildcats will have to turn its focus to recruiting and recovering from the recent decommits.

It has been one hell of a year for the Arizona Football team, after basically throwing together a schedule amid the Pandemic-riddled and abbreviated 2020 season, this year has not been the Wildcats’, to say the least.

24 hours after seeing a de-commitment from Ja’Quez Harvey, and the Wildcats lost one of their other key players for 2020, as Louisiana-based edge rusher Ja’Marian Peterson has also decided to decommit.

Making his announcement via Social Media, the standout from De La Salle High School in New Orleans is no longer a Wildcat, which is unfortunate because this is one of Arizona’s bigger commitments.

Rated as a three-star edge rusher, he is the No, 1,185 player in the class, the No. 72 overall player for his position, and the No. 35 overall player from the talented state of Louisiana.

Holding offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Colorado, Memphis and Indiana among numerous offers, it seemed like ever since his commitment to the Wildcats back in July, Arizona was going to have to fight to keep.

With just a couple of weeks to go until Early Signing Day, and this is about as gutting of a loss as I’ve ever seen for Arizona.

Given Arizona’s struggles on defense, and in particular, along the defensive line, losing players like Harvey and Peterson hurts.

I’m sure there are numerous factors as to why both players decided to look elsewhere, however, you cannot deny the glaringly obvious. The team is currently 0-3, and have lost a program worst, 10-straight games. Additionally, there is some concern for recruits as to what head coach Kevin Sumlin’s future looks like with the program following the season.

Arizona is in a bad way right now, and the outward perception is not great. The recent de-commitments are just the icing on top of what has been a disaster in the Sumlin era.

Here’s to hoping the Wildcats can turn it around, and of course, we wish Ja’Marian the best moving forward. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
