Arizona Baseball Wins and Losses in All-Conference Selections
The Pac-12 All-Conference team selections are out and Arizona Baseball is well represented, mostly that is if you discount one surprising omission.
The regular season came to an end, and naturally, Arizona Baseball cleaned up by earning several Pac-12 All-Conference selections.
First, it comes as no surprise to anyone that Arizona catcher, sophomore Daniel Susac was chosen for the second time in as many years. Susac led the Pac-12 with 87 hits and has top five ratings in batting average, hitting .363, total bases with 137, 19 doubles and a total of 54 RBIs. He had an OPS of 1.32.
O’Tremba made the most of his first opportunity to be an everyday player. Sporting a 1.21 OPS, he ranks in the top five in the conference in the following categories: on-base percentage (.456), hits (81), total bases (131), triples (4), and RBIs (49). His .358 batting average puts him at sixth in the conference.
Flanagan, the un-official rally stopper for the Cats, led the team with the lowest ERA (1.47). He also had a team-high 29 appearances, including one start. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was 46-12 in 43 innings. Flanagan had a WHIP of 1.12. He also allowed hitters to just a .240 batting average.
Surprisingly, left-handed pitcher, Garrett Irvin, a fifth-year senior, and sophomore outfielder Chase Davis were just honorable mentions.
Irvin posted a 5-3 record in his fourteen starts, and his 2.65 ERA was good enough for fourth in the conference. Irvin was second in innings pitched with 85.
Davis, one of the few left-handed batters on the team, was second in the Pac-12 with 16 homers, yet somehow was left off any of the All-Pac-12 lists!
Also notably missing from the Pac-12 honors was junior Nik McClaughry, the Wildcats starting shortstop. He did not even make the All-Defensive team, despite leading the league in assists (170). His 250 chances were third on the team behind only Susac and first baseman, Tommy Splaine.
Arizona already defeated Oregon in the first round of the inaugural Pac-12 Baseball Tournament. The Cats advance to face Stanford in the second round of the conference tournament with a chance to go to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
