The 2022 Arizona Football season is just around the corner and one player that is drawing preseason hype is Jacob Cowing as he lands on the Maxwell Award watch list.

Arizona Football opens its season on the road in 45 days as the Wildcats take on San Diego State, and one player to keep an eye on this year is incoming wide receiver, Jacob Cowing.

A transfer from UTEP and standout for the Miners, Cowing is considered to be one of the best receivers in the country.

Well, on Monday afternoon, Jacob landed himself on the Maxwell Award preseason watch list. An award that is given to college football’s top player.

As we are all aware at this point, Arizona saw punter Kyle Ostendorp draw some preseason praise just days ago, and now the Wildcats have its second player in as many days drawing plenty of hype.

Jacob Cowing decided to transfer to Arizona this off-season, and he should be primed for a potentially big year as he lands on the Maxwell Award watch list.

Cowing is a native of Arizona, having previously played high school football at Maricopa High School just outside of Phoenix.

Lightly recruited out of high school, Cowing went to UTEP where he spent three seasons, amassing 2,065 yards and 21 touchdowns on 89 receptions. 2021 was his best year yet as he caught 69 passes for 1,354 yards and seven touchdowns.

That type of production was absent from the Wildcats’ receiving corps last season. And coming into 2022 with highly-touted newcomers that include Tetairoa McMillan (aka “T-Mac”), Keyan Burnett, Kevin Green, Jr., and AJ Jones, and Cowing’s presence helps solidify this group.

Granted, the chances of Cowing winning the Maxwell Award are slim; however, it is great seeing him draw the early praise.

With him being one of the better receivers in the country, it might be a safe bet that this will not be the only preseason award watchlist he lands on. Look for Jacob to possibly land on the Biletnikoff Award watchlist as well, which is given to college football’s top receiver.

Either way, we are excited about the quickly approaching 2022 season, and cannot wait to see Jacob’s impact with the Wildcats this season! Here’s a small preview of the Wildcats’ offensive weapon.
