Serra High School Four-Star Safety is in High Demand

Brandon Burton, is a senior and four-star defender from Junipero Serra High School in Southern California. He has an offer from the University of Arizona and a ton of other top-notch schools.

If Junipero Serra High School sounds familiar, it is the school the Wildcats recruited committed Quarterback Khalil Tate. Khalil is happily helping his college coaches recruit from Southern California.

These two are pretty close, they have been playing together for quite a while.

They also were able to visit the University of Arizona campus together and I have to say he looks pretty darn good in Wildcat cardinal and navy blue.

Burton runs a 4.58-second 40-yard dash, he is listed as 6’1 and 190 pounds, his vertical jump measures 31.3 which is in the top third percentile.  He plays both sides of the ball well. Watching this highlight video I say, why not play him both on offense and defense? He’s a dual threat.

Burton is ranked No. 17 in the Top 100 ESPN Ranked California recruits, most players have committed in the top 25. Interesting, of the top 100 recruits in California, three have committed to Stanford, nine to UCLA, nine to USC, eleven to Cal, two to ASU, four to Utah, six to Oregon, five to Washington, three to Washington State and eight to Arizona. That’s zero commits for Oregon State and Colorado. Sixty out of 100 California total recruits have chosen Pac-12 schools.

More from Zona Zealots

Brandon has offers from 10 out of 12 Pac-12 teams, only two Cal and Arizona State are not listed on ESPN.go.com. In addition to the 10 Pac-12 teams, Brandon also has offers from little known schools such as National Champions Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and Notre dame.  Wow!

Here’s hoping he loves the west coast and just wants to get a bit away outside of California. You go ‘away’ to school, but you are only a one hour plane flight from Los Angeles, probably just about the same distance as Stanford by air, and closer than Oregon or Washington.

ESPN scouting reports feel that Burton needs to decide between being a Safety or being a Wide Receiver. The Plusses on Burton are stellar:

"A physically good-looking prospect. Combines speed, strength and range as an overall athlete. Possesses very good ball skills. Shows explosive traits with the ball in his hands. Also possesses upside as a return man. Shows the height and physical nature to win one-on-one match-ups. BOTTOM LINE: Burton is a gifted overall athlete that could play on either side of the football at the next level. Should be a highly coveted Pac-12 and possibly national prospect due to skill set and measurables."

Not possibly, he is a national prospect, must not have been updated recently.

i spoke to Gabe Encinas last night at length about Arizona’s chances at landing Burton. Gabe tempered my excitement, “He’s good friends with FSU’s QB Commit and he’s a top 30 recruit. I guess his dad lives out in Florida as well and FSU will turn him to a pro.”

Whatever Brandon chooses, it will be what’s best for him.  Would be exciting if he tweets out a big fat Arizona ‘A’ when he commits.

Either way ZonaZealots gives a big Beardown to Brandon!  I’m coming out to a few games this fall and look forward to meeting you.
