Arizona Wildcats Soccer: Hot and Getting Hotter!

We have all been caught up in the excitement of kicking off a new Arizona Football season you may not have noticed that we have another undefeated team!

The USA Women’s Soccer team took home gold medals a few months ago, and the country was on their feet cheering and jumping up and down with excitement. The team dominated Japan in the World Cup on the world stage. Heck they beat the proud Japan team 5-2! Now it’s time to support our Arizona Women’s soccer team.

Our Arizona Wildcats women’s soccer team has started off the season playing great and they are getting better each week! The team is officially 5-0 after hitting the road for three games in the past two weeks. They recently added these three schools to the list of teams who can’t stop them: Northern Arizona University, San Diego State and Stephen F. Austin University.

More than a week ago in Flagstaff, the Arizona Wildcats took advantage of two early goals to finish off the Lumberjacks; final score 4-0.

Last Friday, the Wildcats held on to defeat San Diego State University in a close 1-0 game to start the Labor Day weekend in the Sun Devil Desert Classic in Tempe. The team took another step in the right direction with a relatively easy win (3-0) over SF Austin in the same tournament on Sunday morning.

More from Wildcats Soccer

Have you been out to Murphy Field at Mulcahy Stadium? If not, you don’t know what you’re missing. I haven’t had the chance to get out there yet this season to cheer on my Cats, but I did last season and trust me, Head Coach Tony Amato is building a legacy. You are definitely not going to want to miss being a part of it all.

Starting this Friday, the Wildcats will host No. 22 Arizona State, No. 14 Pepperdine and No. 18 Texas Tech in Tucson in the Arizona Cats Classic. What a better way to get started than going this weekend when your Wildcats Soccer team plays two games at home against two Top-25 teams.

The Wildcats take on 18th ranked Texas Tech Friday night at 7 p.m. Then, on Sunday, they face off against 14th ranked Pepperdine Waves at 1:30 p.m. in the finale of the Arizona Cats Classic.

Plus, after you catch the Wildcats Football team take care of Nevada on Saturday while sitting on your couch at home, you can come out in the fresh air for some more afternoon action on Sunday to end your weekend on a high note. What could be better?

Here are some soccer team stats, which are sure to impress you, care of ArizonaWildcats.com:

  • Gabi Stoian is currently eighth on the all-time Arizona scoring list with 16 career goals. With her assist last week, she has the sixth-most career points of any Arizona player with 41, just two behind Christine Keeley.
  • Arizona’s defense has been stifling all season as they have only allowed one goal and 16 shots (5.3 per match) over the first three matches
  • Arizona leads the Pac-12 in goals (10) and points (28). Individually, Stoian leads the conference in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8)

Wow!

Attention students! There’s even a free shuttle for the ZonaZoo! How can you not go now? Come on!

Coach Amato even sings a song to get you to come out and cheer for his team.

Trust me, this is something you will not want to miss. Make sure you come out and BEARDOWN with Wildcats Soccer this weekend!!
