Head Coach Rich Rodriguez has said he wanted to put more of an emphasis on recruiting, and Arizona Football is certainly bringing in some talented players in response.

Football talent is everywhere, but finding the right talent is always a challenge, especially at the high school level. However, Rich Rod seems to have found that talent in Arizona’s backyard, with local high school product, Drew Dixon who is committed to Arizona Football.

The 6=foot4” 195-pound athlete has done some great things this year, and after observing a few of his games, the Wildcats seemed to have found another OKG (Our Kinda Guy). Despite his large stature, Dixon is a soft-spoken person who lets his big game do the talking.

The talented senior has led Sabino High School to an impressive 6-1 record this year while filling up the stat sheet for the talented Sabercats.

Currently this year, Dixon has 310 yards, with two touchdowns to just two interceptions passing, while completing 62% of his passes. He has also added another 675 yards and ten touchdowns rushing!

Think that’s it? Hardly! Additionally, Dixon has accumulated 184 yards receiving, scoring two touchdowns on the receiving side of the ball. Drew is an athlete that seemingly does it all for his high school. He can fill up a stat sheet rather quickly, and his impact can be easily seen and felt out on the field.

Versatility and athleticism are certainly what Rodriguez covets in his up-tempo offense, and Dixon easily fits that mold.

Where he ends up playing, Dixon level may be the biggest challenge for Rodriguez at the next level. Drew believes he will likely be a receiver according to the staff, but with all the injuries at quarterback this year, he is certainly open to the idea of playing QB if the situation called for it.

“Whatever I can do to help, I mean, I love the game and I’d be more than happy to help!”

“Whatever I can do to help, I mean, I love the game and I’d be more than happy to help!” For Dixon, he is just looking forward to the opportunity at Arizona, and “using the talent [I’ve] been blessed with, and taking it to the best that I can be.”

It is not often Tucson has players like Dixon, but every once in a while, there are a few good athletes, and it is certainly a pressure for the University of Arizona to keep the best players in the state, let alone in the city, in Tucson.

Despite being from Tucson, however, Drew felt no pressure to commit to Arizona. Ultimately, he just felt it was the right place for him, and it felt like home, “My mom told me the choice is on me, so I just prayed, and UofA seemed to be that place.”

He is big time excited to be a Wildcat, and he shows his support and excitement by wearing the Arizona gloves when he plays.

Dixon certainly has talent, and he will be a nice addition to the 2017 recruiting class for the Wildcats. You can tell from some of his recent highlights, and he uses his size and overall quickness to his advantage, and he possesses enough athleticism to be quite successful at the next level.

Zona Zealots had the chance to catch-up with the young Dixon following his homecoming game against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at Sabino High School, and here is what Drew had to say, following his teams win.

Here is certainly a humble and talented young man. He is a special talent and should have a nice impact for the Wildcats. Arizona certainly got a great player in Dixon. Bear Down, Drew, and good luck with the rest of your season!
