Arizona Basketball: We are in the middle of the Pac-12 tournament round two, Arizona takes on Cal today at 12:10pm PST in Las Vegas.  We also celebrate two of next years Wildcats, Chance Comanche and Justin Simon!

Chance Comanche:

Last night, Chance’s Beverly Hills Normans moved on past the CIF Los Angeles Championship last Friday night to play at home on their own court in the first round of their next tournament for the 2015 CIF State Boys Basketball for Southern California.  They won easily by 30 points over Bernstein High School from Hollywood California, the final score was 78-48.

The game started with Chance on the floor, and after two quick foul calls, he was back on the bench cheering for his team. The second foul was a questionable call, charging.  From my vantage point it was a beautiful floater over a shorter defender who didn’t have his feet planted. I assured the fans around me that this would not be the case in college, charging is hardly ever called, so that’s good for us.

The score at one point got up to about 20 points in the Normans favor, but then the score starting creeping back up to be within about 11 points.  After half time, Chance got the start, and put on a show for his school and all the fans in attendance.

Comanche made three out of four fouls shots, and if I counted correctly made four of the most exciting dunks I have seen any high school player make, NBA style!  I think all his points were either dunks or from free throws.  In any case, the team back up by 25+ put Chance back on the bench to enjoy the game.

Next up for the Normans is the Cantwell Sacred Heart Cardinals from Montebello, Ca on Saturday night in Montebello at 6pm.  Cantwell has three players Chance’s size, all played with him on his AAU Basketball team, and his AAU coach is Cantwell’s coach, so he is familiar with his skills.  The Normans in contrast, are a smaller team, but their ball handling skills and passing skills are off the charts.  They have beautiful fast break plays that would impress most coaches. Go Normans!

Justin Simon:

Across the country in New Hampshire, Justin Simon’s Brewster Acadamy High School team last night beat IMG Academy according to @TheBBallDiary and Coach Jason Smith to win their 4th National Prep Championship. Brewster finished their season with the best record in program history finishing at 13-6 according to their website.:

From the Brewster’s Coach Jason Smith on the 87-53 win!:

According to CoxHub who covered the game:

"BREWSTER ACADEMY CEMENTS DYNASTY STATUS WITH CHAMPIONSHIP WIN: Brewster Academy entered the 2015 National Prep Championship as the tournament favorite, and the Bobcats did not dissapoint as they came away with back to back titles (making it 4 titles in the past 6 years), and continued to establish themselves as one of the very best prep school programs in the nation."
