In all 30 highschool boys basketball players were selected for the 37th annual CalHiSports.com All American Basketball team. Included in the selection were one Sophomore, seven Juniors and twenty-two Seniors. One of the Juniors selected is our future Wildcat TJ Leaf (Class of 2016) and one of the seniors selected is future Wildcat Chance Comanche (class of 2015).
The pool of players for selection consisted of all California boys basketball players regardless of CIF division or year in school and there are five divisions which players are selected from. This means that these players made their all division team, then they made the All American team.
Arizona Wildcats
We asked the expert Ronnie Flores how the teams (Divisional, and All American) are selected:
ZZ) What’s the process to select the team?
Ronnie: “Myself and co-founder Mark Tennis evaluate as many players as possible during the high school season to determine the 30 best for the entire state of California.”
ZZ) Who determines the list and what is the criteria?
Ronnie: “Ronnie Flores and Mark Tennis chose the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State team exclusively. The criteria is a player must participate for a CIF sanctioned school, play in a vast majority of his team’s high school games and be honored by his CIF state section, and/or locally or regionally by a newspaper or governing body.
There is no other honor squad or all-section team that a player must appear on to make all-state, but it helps in the process and it also helps when coaches or fans nominate a player, which we publicly state they have the opportunity to do.”
Good to know for the future!

What was interesting for me in this list was of those committed to a four-year college, 14 of the 22 (64%) committed to Pac-12 schools, 11 of 22 (50%) are staying in California and zero are playing for a college team back east.
What was more interesting is that two had committed to the University of Arizona, and three have offers to play for Arizona. Please note that of the 22 committed players, a number of them had an offer from Arizona, most notably Ivan Rabb, but we won’t rub salt in that wound.
CONGRATS TO CHANCE AND TJ! BEARDOWN!
