Jacob “Cola” Colacion is a humble young man and a great football player who is very excited about attending the University of Arizona and be a Wildcat.
Jacob is one of four siblings; he has an older brother Tres and two older sisters Jordan and Taylor, so he is the youngest of four. This might be why he is also extremely competitive whether it’s on the field or playing video games.
I asked him how he got into football, “When I was young I didn’t lilke sports,” Jacob said, “my parents made me play soccer, and my friend introduced me to football and it’s been football ever since.” Before games he makes sure he performs his lucky ritual: he always puts on his right sock first before his left sock.
Jacob is also a country music fan so he will fit in nicely in Arizona. I told him about the annual Country Thunder weekend get-a-way a lot of Wildcats students enjoy and he was interested in learning more. His favorite Country singer is Luke Bryan and he is going to see him perform live soon. He enjoys all types of music including rap.
For fun, Jacob enjoys travelling with his friend who owns a boat to Lake Havasu to relax and this helps him get used to the heat, although he confesses, “we do get to jump in the water though.” Well, I am sure there will be plenty of ice baths in Tucson for you if you need it as well.
Jacob was scouted by many schools and recieved scholarships from Boise State, San Diego State, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana University, Washington State who poured on the love and more.

His father wanted him to visit a lot of the schools to make sure he chose the right one, “It was hard decision, my dad wanted me to go visit the schools so I went and visited the schools.” Colacion enjoyed his visits to Arizona. On one of his visits he spent a lot of time with Scooby Wright and came away with a great fondness for him, who wouldn’t? As for the coaches he absolutely respects and admires them, including Matt Dudek, “I love that guy Matty D!”
I asked him what was it about Arizona that sealed the deal on his decision, “A little bit of everything, Coach Rich Rod was one of the best coaches I met, all around great guys, all the players I felt were down to earth, and everyone felt like family, they are really like that.”
Jacob committed to Arizona on July 7th, just a couple of weeks ago, and took a trip to Arizona this past weekend with his family.
Per Daniel Berk of the Arizona Daily Star, Colacion was the sixth commit out of Southern California for the class of 2016. He also mentioned that Colacion was a player Rich Rod “really liked for several months..he’s an inside guy but can play outside.” Watching Jake’s tape, you can understand why, he is very versatile.
Here’s more from Berk:
In May Colacion was invited to the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour where he earned MVP honors for the line backer position.
In March, he took part in the B2G Sports Adidas event, and won the championship. Now we know where he got those black Adidas socks in his Twitter photo, time to throw those away as he will be in Nike wear from now on. Jacob agreed those socks would stay in California, it’s all Nike in Tucson.

ESPN Scouts have nothing really critical to say about Colacion, in fact it seems all positive, they really like him:
"Possesses the athleticism and intellect to play in long yardage situations; from off (OLB)and deep safety alignments, we see very good route awareness and ball skills; displays good hip flexibility, crossing over with eyes back to the quarterback; is able to make hands catch interceptions and pass break up plays."
"We see a physical, high wrap tackler capable of generating the short space power needed to punish and knock ball carriers back where they came from. Comes to balance, not allowing garbage yards in space."
"Colacion is a physical linebacker with the blend of speed and toughness we like to see when evaluating the position; shows very good point of attack playing strength along with outstanding speed/range to the sideline. His frame appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time"
Jacob has played inside linebacker in camps as well as outside linebacker in high school, but he is slated to be an outsided linebacker for Arizona which he is very happy about. He desribes himself as a “Pretty normal guy and I am humble, don’t like talking about myself, I just love football!” He’s excited that he will join his highschool teammate No.86 TE Darrell Cloy Jr. “DJ Cloy” who will be a sophomore and play in this upcoming Arizona season which starts on September 3rd.
I asked Cola which Pac-12 team he wanted to beat at Arizona, “My family hates USC as we are UCLA fans. My dad wanted me to go to UCLA, so beating USC will be an equivalent to attending UCLA.”
Here is his highlight video for your enjoyment, watch how versatile and agile he is, wow!
Jacob Colacions vision for his future as a student at the University of Arizona is a mature one which I admire, “I will get used to the lifestyle, be off on my own and see how I can grow.”
Beardown Jacob! Enjoy your senior year!
