Recap of Wildcats Time at Track World Championships
By Marisol Diaz
Recap of the second half of the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing; Wildcats Pau Tonnesen and Sage Watson compete.
What a week it has been at the world championships! Team USA has been killing it, although there are a few other teams that have done just as well.
An exciting decathlon has come to a finish early this morning with former Olympic gold medalist, Ashton Eaton, setting a new world record after he finished the 1500 meter race! He’s now a 2 time world record holder! I think I was practically jumping out of my seat watching this race as everyone realized he was on pace to beat his own record.
Watch it here…USA takes Gold in the Decathlon…world record…
, the lone wildcat in the decathlon finished in 18th place and I know everyone at Zona Zealots and UofA is proud of him for making it so far.

I came across a great article from El Mundo. If you don’t speak Spanish, I’ll sum up the article by saying that they are calling Pau the Spanish Superman!!
He’s making headlines all over the world after competing in the European Cup and placing second in the decathlon this past June.
Remember, he is representing Spain for the championships while Sage is representing her home country Canada.
Here’s what happened in a few other events:
Disappointment in the men’s 4 x 100 as a messy baton exchange led to USA being disqualified.
Wow! The women’s 800 was exciting with three athletes all very close together at the end. It could have gone to any of them.
In the women’s long jump, USA’s Tianna Bartoletta took gold with a mark of 7.14. And no USA to be found in the high jump with Russia taking gold.
Mo Farah of Great Britain took gold for the 5k! No surprise there at all. He already killed it in the 10k earlier this week.
Our second wildcat, Sage Watson, is still set to compete in the women’s 4 x 400 relay coming up soon!
Very excited to see how she and her teammates do. Make sure to support Sage and watch the event tomorrow!
