I hope you’re not surprised by the results of this study, you shouldn’t be. Arizona Wildcats fans ranked No. 7 in the best grammar used in comments they posted online with regards to articles posted by SB Nation. Grammarly focused on college teams included in the 2015 preseason AP Top 25 poll. Since Arizona was ranked No. 22 in the AP Poll, our teams fans were included in the study.

There seems to be no correlation between the ranking of a team in the AP Poll and the grammar mistake ranking. Case in point, the No. 1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes ended up ranked No. 12 in this study. The AP Poll No. 3 ranked Alabama ended up dead last in this study at No. 25. Tennessee, ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll, ended up having their fans ranked No. 9 in this grammar study.
"We began by taking the first five comments posted under each article on SB Nation’s official college football team blogs until we had gathered a total of one hundred comments for each team. The comments all contained at least fifty words.Using Grammarly, we identified the errors in the comments, which were then verified and tallied by a team of live proofreader’s. For the purpose of this study, we counted only black-and-white mistakes such as misspellings, wrong and missing punctuation, misused or missing words, and subject-verb disagreement. We ignored stylistic variations such as the use of common slang words, serial comma usage, and the use of numerals instead of spelled-out numbers. Finally, we calculated the average number of mistakes per one hundred words by dividing the total word count of the comments by the total number of mistakes for each college football team."
Andrew Joseph of AZCentral.com said it so well, “The Territorial Cup of grammar clearly goes to UA.” That said, Auburn fans won the Championship! Auburn comes in at No. 1 with .89 mistakes per 100 words.
Arizona Wildcats
As far as Pac-12 teams, Oregon Duck fans came in at No. 3 with 1.89 mistakes per 100 words, Stanford (a private very expensive school) No. 6 with 2.22 mistakes, and then sliding in just past Stanford, is Arizona at No. 7 with 2.29 mistakes, just .07 behind Stanford Cardinal fans. Does this make graduating from Arizona a bargain? At Arizona you get a great education, and but only need to borrow half as much in student loans.
If this wasn’t pleasant enough news, it gets better. USC Trojans Fans, who back another very expensive private school in California, landed at No. 10 down three from Arizona with 3.37 mistakes per 100 words, then you find UCLA at No. 16, six whole spots past USC with 4.37 mistakes. And, the last Pac-12 team left in the top 25 Poll, ASU Sun Devils land at No. 19 with 4.99 mistakes, a full 2.7 more mistakes per 100 words more than Arizona. Fantastic news!
Arizona Wildcats Coaches, are you paying attention? Now I don’t suppose that all fans of a certain college team are graduates of that school; there are fans who went to schools without a team, fans whose parents went to the school, or children went to or are going to Arizona and they are paying for them to attend in Tucson, there is also the fan who didn’t graduate from college, but let’s just say for giggles that 75% of the fans did graduate from Arizona; I think that’s still impressive!
