This weekend, fans were faced with a dilemma: Do Arizona Wildcats fans root against Arizona State University no matter what the cost?
ZonaZealots tweeted out a shoutout to UCLA to beat ASU on Saturday, the assumption was that most Arizona fans always cheer against ASU no matter what the consequences. What we found out was, not every Wildcats fan agreed.
#BEATASU!!!!!!! https://t.co/MkZ4BpY2Fr

Both Arizona State and UCLA are in the Pac-12 South along with Arizona. If UCLA beats Arizona State, then UCLA would have one of the best records going into week 6 in the Pac-12 south. This dilemma continues for Wildcats fans as the season wears on as well; what if we need ASU to beat a team in order for Arizona to rise in the standings?
We took the question to social media and received a lot of feedback, who were Wildcats fans cheering on for the UCLA versus ASU game today, UCLA? ASU? Neither? And what is their philosophy going forward?
Twitter reaction:
@ZonaZealots Neither. I'm rooting for a tornado.

@ZonaZealots UCLA needs to lose. I don't care who beats then.

@ZonaZealots You already know. I always say, Fork the Fork, except I didn't say fork.

@ZonaZealots I'm still kinda leaning for ucla to lose because IF Zona loses tonight and ucla wins, Zona is now 3 games back of them

@ZonaZealots Kinda?! @_boog1 has it right. We always want Tempe Normal to lose, no matter what. Lose the football game, lose car keys etc.

On Facebook, it’s quite a different story as you don’t have a limit of characters, so we got a ton of feedback. We’ll share the best answers.

Arizona Wildcats
Brett Miller: Let’s just say I will root for UCLA to lose not ASU to win LOL
Troy Hutchingson: Nope, go UCLA
David Wagner: Can never root for the scummies
Chris Woods: We might as well watch ASU crash and burn. Let’s hope they don’t even make a bowl game. It will help us with recruiting down the road if we are trending in a better direction.
They still have @ucla, @utah, Oregon, Arizona, and @cal. It could be bad for them.
Scott Taylor: I agree that watching ASU lose every single game possible is what I want to see. UCLA has plenty of other division games in which to lose. 56 – 0 UCLA over ASU is what I want to see today…It could be bad for them.
Cory Flores: UCLA should lose!
Mike Baldwin: Go Bruins! A UCLA win will just about put ASU’s dream season out of reach and UCLA still has plenty of opportunities to lose later in the season.
Victor Yacullo: I would like a matchup of ASU vs ASU and they both lose: Disqualified for their uniforms, alumni and students, coach and his wristbands, and well for just Being ASU
Doug Keith: As much as I hate to say ASU needs to win this one.
Luke LaRussa: UCLA. Can you hear the scum devils now? Oh, we beat the team you lost to.
I enjoyed all the answers, it sure is a dilemma, isn’t it? Most fans seem to cheer against ASU at all times, and Luke makes a great point! I am mixed myself, but as I watched the first quarter of the game, and the Sun Devils were now up by nine points, I very much wanted UCLA to score; damn the ramifications down the road. I sure hope I don’t kick myself for saying that.
Either way, we need the Wildcats to kick some trees in Palo Alto today and if Arizona wins, that may help them so much I won’t worry about UCLA getting one more win. Towards the end of the season we all might feel a little differently.
