Arizona Football: Arizona Flips Utah Commit Kahi Neves

Good news Arizona football fans, we have ourselves a new linebacker!

Lately, when you hear a player has de-committed it has been from Arizona, but this time, linebacker, Kahi Neves has de-committed from Utah and committed to Arizona.

Originally a quarterback commit for the Utah Utes, Kahi Neves is the Wildcats newest committed linebacker. Neves played defensive back in his junior year in high school, and that’s the position he will most probably play for the Wildcats.

Neves is planning on arriving in Tucson in January along with QB Khalil Tate, and gray shirt corner Antonio Parks and TE Jamie Nunley.

Neves is no stranger to transferring; he transferred six times during his high school career. As a freshman, he played for Scooby Wright‘s high school Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa, Calif. Then he transferred and played a little for Kaiser in Hawaii as a sophomore. Then came  Bingham and Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

After Bingham, Neves transferred to Brighton and played both backup quarterback (4 for 12 for 162 yards and one touchdown) and as a defensive linebacker (65 tackles and three sacks).

Playing second fiddle at QB, he transferred to Timpview HS where he was propelled to starting quarterback. Timpview had won three straight Class 4A championships before his arrival and Neves was able to get to his new team to the championship game losing to East HS.

Neves received attention from colleges because of his versatility and his size. Neves stands 6-4 and weights 233-240 pounds depending on what source you believe. He has offers from Hawaii, Arizona and Utah and is a four-star (Scout) athlete ranked No. 3 in his home state of Utah.

It’s been over a year that Neves has been committed to Utah; he took his visit to Arizona this weekend. He flipped his decision and was sold on Arizona.

According to Zack Rosenblatt, Neve’s is the Wildcats second committed linebacker and Rich Rod’s 17th class of 2016 commit.

Here is a list of the Arizona football class of 2016 thus far:

Who sold Neves on flipping to Arizona? Well according to Matt Moreno, Neves expressed to him that he thought highly of Arizona’s defensive coach Jeff Casteel.

Gabe Encinas gave us all his best guess at the Wildcats defensive team next year; the word is still out on Scooby Wright III and if he will stay or enter the NFL Draft.

And there you have it! You should be all caught up.  Wonder if meeting Michael Eletise and reuniting with Scooby had anything to do with his decision? Eletise was in Tucson with Neves this weekend for a visit.
