Arizona Baseball Ready to Start New Chapter

We are a month away from the start of a new era and new chase for their fifth title on the diamond for the Arizona Baseball team.

There have been plenty of changes, but one thing is for sure that it will be a lot of first this season.

Wildcats fans know that even with all the changes going on with the baseball team, these Wildcats will know how to beardown and battle all season. For the first time in 13 years, there will be a new head coach running out the line-up card and calling the shots for Wildcat Baseball. Head Coach Jay Johnson will lead the Wildcats to battle this season.

Johnson, who left his post at Nevada, was named the Wildcats head coach back in November after coach Andy Lopez stepped down following the 2015 season.  Coach Johnson is going to motivate a team who will be fun to watch because he is known for a fun exciting style of baseball that keeps both fans and opposing teams on their toes.

Johnson’s team will play at Hi-Corbet field which is a big park and is ranked as one of the best in the nation by stadiumjourney.com. Even though Hi-Corbet is known for being a pitcher’s park, the Wildcats finished 2015 in the Top-100 for runs, hits, doubles, and on-base percentage.

On top of the excitement around all the new changes, there will some familiar faces around to help the Wildcats make some noise in the Pac-12 and hopefully reach their 17th College World Series. How else to kick off the next chapter of Wildcats Baseball team than being able to head back to Omaha.

As a team, the Wildcats are not ranked nationally yet but are catching plenty of eyes and receiving votes in baseballnews.com preseason 2016 rankings. Just so you know, a national audience will be watching the Wildcats, it was announced that the Wildcats will be televised 17 times this season.

So if your on the fence about how big your support can affect a team, remember full stands on TV will bring more recruits to put the Wildcats in the front running. Who wouldn’t want to play in front of a crowd of 9,500 Wildcat fans on a beautiful night in Tucson? If you haven’t been out to Hi-Corbett, you don’t know what you are missing.

The key player to watch is none other than junior leader Bobby Dalbec. The third baseman/pitcher has landed on the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American second team and was also included on the Rawlings Perfect Game All-American second team. The question isn’t if he will make an impact, the question is will he make a bigger impact come from the mound or the hot corner or his bat?

He is not the only player to be excited about; the entire roster will be filled with old and new faces. Most notably if you live in Tucson, you will know there are two home-grown prospects. Junior infielder Michael Hoard from Salpointe High School and freshman catcher Cesar Salazar out of Sahuaro High School.

This as your friendly reminder and call-out for your chance to make an impact on the Wildcats Baseball season. The team kicks off their season Feb 19 against Rice University. The Wildcats first home game comes against a national powerhouse in baseball; Cal State Fullerton comes to town March 2nd at 6 p.m.
