Arizona Softball: Great Info from a huge Wildcats fan

facebooktwitterreddit

Arizona Softball and Wildcats fan Kevin Andrews reports a wealth of information about the team on his Facebook Group.

Kevin started a public Facebook group focusing on Arizona Softball to get like-minded fans together to talk about the sport he has grown to love. The group’s name is ‘UofA Softball‘ which includes 1,263 likes to-date.

If you are interested in keeping up with Softball, this is a group for you.

How did Kevin become a fan of Softball?

"I’m just a fan. I’ve always enjoyed baseball, but the games run so long. When I started coaching my daughters softball team way back when, I gained an interest in softball. When we moved to Tucson in ’97, I fell in love with Arizona softball and have been a loyal fan ever since."

Andrews has been updating members about various former Wildcats softball players as he counts down the days until the season starts. To give you a taste of what you can expect,

Here is his entry from ’20 days’:

“20 days and counting…this current Wildcat is a local player from Ironwood Ridge High School. She was named the first team All-Southern Arizona in 2015 and All-State in 2013 and 2014. She hit .433, stole 47 bases, and scored 89 runs as a senior. Merrilee Miller also helped lead her high school team to the 2013 state title.

Good luck this year Merrilee!” No. Merrilee Miller

And, here is his entry from ’21 days’:

21 days…this power hitter came to the Wildcats from Glendale, Arizona in the fall of 2006. She is one of the toughest ladies I have ever met as she sustained a serious injury during fall ball that forced her to red shirt the spring of her freshman season in 2007.

The next year, she started every game as a red shirt freshman, primarily as designated player, hitting fifteen home runs throughout the season. 2009 saw her start 61 games as the catcher and two at the designated player position. She earned the first team All PAC-10 and third team All-American honors. She was also the first team All-West Region and was named PAC-10 Player of the Week twice.

She also earned USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week in March of 2009 as well as being named one of ten finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year Award. She led the nation with 36 home runs and 96 RBI. Her junior year, she earned first team All PAC-10, second team All-American honors, and first team All-Pacific Region. She tied for the team led with 21 home runs while also getting walked 62 times.

She also led the team in slugging percentage (.803), on-base percentage (.519), triples (3), and sac flies (3). Her senior year, she earned a second team All PAC-10 distinction, finishing the season at the top of the Arizona home run list with 87.

She also finished fourth in the career RBI list with 293 and third in the career walks list with 158. Stacie Chambers attended San Juan College from 2012 to 2013, completing the Alternative Licensure Program for Secondary and Special Education and is currently working on an M.A. degree in Professional Counseling through New Mexico Highlands University while working as an advisor at San Juan College.

Best of luck Stacie! #21 Stacie Chambers.”
