Former Arizona Football player Scooby Wright, finally has his dream come true as he is selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 7th and final round.

It was a seemingly unlikely road, but the former Wildcat star who went from hardly being recruited out of high school, to college phenomenon, to a college kid hopefully fulfilling his dream of being drafted in the NFL.

On Saturday, that dream finally came true as the long anticipation was over for Wright, as he was selected by the Cleveland Browns as the 250th overall pick.

The 21-year-old Wright has become synonymous with just a few things; working hard, making plays, and proving doubters wrong during his football career. In high school, he put up solid numbers, worked hard, but unfortunately, things didn’t materialize for him by the way of various College Scholarships.

That is until Head Coach Rich Rodriguez and company (known for finding and polishing up the underdogs), found Wright out of Cardinal Newman High School in Northern California. His only scholarship offer, Wright took his opportunity and ran.

Arriving at Tucson as a Freshmen with hopes of just cracking the depth chart, Wright quickly made his presence felt on the football field. His first year in Tucson was highlighted by being named Freshman All-America by 247sports.com and second-team Freshman All-America by Athlon Sports as well. In addition, he earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors.

That freshmen season was also perhaps highlighted by this iconic play, as Arizona knocked off the then Top-5 ranked Oregon Ducks. More impressively he followed that up with a remarkable sophomore season that saw him win a number of awards, as well as help the Wildcats win 10 games in 2014, the most in over a decade!

Scooby Wright’s selection to the Browns makes him just the fifth Wildcat taken in the NFL Draft since Rodriguez has taken over at Arizona, and surprisingly the second Wildcat selected in the NFL Draft, behind now former teammate Will Parks.

Fitting that he was considered underrated coming out of high school, and again the storylines seem to still follow the young Wright, as 249 players (32 linebackers) were taken before him.

Wright certainly has the determination to be a good pro. He possesses the right amount of work ethic, will, and toughness (mentally & physically) to succeed. In Scooby’s case, he’s at least overwhelmed for the opportunity again, and that he’s getting his shot.

The challenge will definitely be on for Wright. He’s going to need to adjust quickly and make enough of an impression to stick with his team. Plus, he can again use this sort of “disrespect” (falling in the draft) to fuel his fire to prove his doubters wrong once again.

We at ZZ feel he’s going to do great things, he’s a tremendous young man with great promise. He has the desire to succeed and ultimately his work ethic will shine through. He’s been through this process before, where he proved people wrong and feel he will do so again. BearDown, Scooby, and Congrats!
