Arizona Basketball: Latest on Terrance Ferguson

Arizona Basketball commit Terrance Ferguson is not on 2016 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training roster

Twenty-Six basketball players are listed on the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training roster, Arizona Basketball commit Terrance Ferguson is not one of them. Ferguson is ESPN’s No. 2 shooting guard and the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2016 class. Sean Miller and Wildcats fans were ecstatic when Ferguson chose Arizona and quickly adopted him as their own.

You can’t help it!

USA U18 training camp is starting on June 14 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The latest roster now has three more players listed; Miles Bridges (Huntington Prep, WVa./Flint, Mich.); Chaundee Brown (The First Academy/Orlando, Fla.) and Jordan Tucker(Archbishop Stepinac H.S./White Plains, N.Y.). Bridges, a forward, is a Spartan (Michigan State) commit and a McDonald’s All-American.

Translation: “No Elenco” means “Not casted.”

Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star believes this may be a sign  Ferguson is not coming to Arizona, he was supposed to arrive on campus June 20th, “After the USA Basketball camp, and he was expected to be able to also make the continuation of camp in Houston on July 11-15, with the FIBA Americas U18 Championship to be held starting July 19 in Chile.”

You have to be hiding under a rock if you weren’t aware that 247Sports reported Terrance was ‘mulling’ over his options to play overseas, and the sports media world took that and ran the story every which way you could imagine. Terrance posted this solemn tweet right about the same time.

Wildcat Sports Report (247Sports) writer Brad Allis gave us a more detailed and realistic view of
what was going on in his podcast. Brad explained that Ferguson and his family wanted him to go to Arizona, but that because of the high school he attended and graduated from may not have classes that the NCAA will accept, and he may have to go overseas.

The NCAA has clearinghouse issues it sorts out before school starts, and these aren’t sorted out sometimes until late in the summer. This makes things complicated for Terrance, so it seems he has dropped out of the USA Basketball program where he was almost guaranteed a spot due to his earning three previous gold medals. The destination most reported for Ferguson is Australia, combined with an Under Armour contract.

So….Just when Pascoe is reporting Ferguson is GOING, Jason Scheer of Scout.com is saying the University is still expecting him!

Wherever these 120Sports guys are getting their information, we have no idea. They say Terrance is going to Australia, “announcing he will be playing overseas.”  ZonaZealots has seen NO announcement from Ferguson. We even asked them to give us the source and got crickets.

Whatever the case, we hope it all works out for Ferguson; he is projected to go in the top 20 in next seasons 2017 NBA draft so he will be just fine. So, he may miss out on playing with his buddies while eating Shrimp on the Barbie. But, we hope he will end up sipping Eegee’s and loading up on breakfast burritos from Highland Market! Beardown Terrance, hope it all works out!
