Arizona Baseball fans came in droves to Hi Corbett Field to thank and welcome back Coach Jay Johnson and his College World Series team.
The month of June was spent living and dying on every Arizona Baseball pitch, surviving six elimination games, and reaching the title game in Coach Jay Johnson’s first season. We got to know this team well and appreciate all the effort and entertainment they gave us.
When the Wildcats came up 90 feet short of tying the final game in the 9th inning, it was almost a shock, it felt like there were suddenly no more presents under the Christmas tree.

There were plenty of what-ifs and envy while we watched Coastal Carolina celebrate earning a trophy we thought should be ours. It was definitely a difficult afternoon and we felt for the team and coaches.
Soon, news came there would be a welcome home ceremony that night at Hi Corbett field, the Wildcats’ home stadium. Of course, there would be a welcome if a National Championship trophy was in the front seat of the plane. And the team deserved recognition, but how many people would show up late on a hot weeknight?
Arizona Athletics began tweeting updates as the baseball team landed at the airport. Fans were beginning to arrive at Hi Corbett.

The Arizona Baseball team knew there would be some fans at Hi Corbett, but nobody had any idea how many. Meanwhile, they had a few local heroes salute them at the airport. Thanks to some of Tucson’s Finest for the thumbs-up for this Wildcat team.

Back at Hi Corbett Field, more fans were arriving. By the time the Wildcats arrived by bus, there was quite a crowd not only to thank the team but to have a chance to see them in person after watching all those weeks from a distance.

We know The University of Arizona has the best fans and this proves it. What a special way to end the school year and take us well into summer. And the best tweet? After a tough day, the Arizona Baseball team had more to give their fans. This little boy will never forget that special June 30th.

And there was one other gift the Arizona Baseball team gave its fans, just a little remembrance of this special season: A No.2 final ranking.

No other Pac-12 teams made the final poll, not The School Up North who thinks they are a baseball school, and not the conference champs Utah Utes. Thank you to Arizona Baseball, the best baseball team in the country. BearDown and we will see you soon!
