Former Arizona Wildcat Brandon Ashley has been playing for the Dallas Mavericks NBA Summer League team. Let’s see how he’s been playing.
Four games into the NBA Orlando Pro Summer League schedule, Brandon Ashley has had the opportunity to compete with top talent all over the globe. He is currently playing for the Dallas Mavericks, who are undefeated at 4-0. Orlando is the first of three cities holding NBA Summer League games, Utah and Las Vegas being the other two.
In the four games played by the Mavericks, Ashley has played in two of them. He has scored a total of 17 points, 7-15 from the field, 11 rebounds and has 42:24 minutes of playing time. Ashley has shown he can play on both ends of the court:
Timely offensive and defensive rebounds
Soft touch put-backs around the rim, including this buzzer beater:

Quickness to the rim:

Dishing out assists ‘TJ-like’ down low to his teammates:
Solid defensive on the outside and inside (even though he recently became popular on Twitter when he fell down – I say the court was wet! ) Sometimes you got to take one for the team:

At 6-foot-9 and 230 pounds, Ashley is a little undersized for a true power forward, but his MASSIVE wingspan of 7-foot-3.25 makes up for it! What also sets Ashley apart from most (and goes under the radar) is his sense of awareness on the court. Being able to put himself in the best position to either grab a rebound or put back a shot over a couple of defenders you just don’t teach – unless you’re a Wildcat!

Ashley is not new to the NBA Summer League scene. Back in 2015, he played for the Atlanta Hawks and then for Dallas for three summers. He was later picked up by the Dallas Mavericks for seven preseason games before being waived.
Later that year he played for the Texas Legends, the NBA D-League affiliate to the Dallas Mavericks, and was named to the 2016 D-League West All-Star team. This time around he is playing for the same NBA team that waived him – hopefully, this time it will be a different story.
For those that don’t remember, Ashley put up solid numbers while at Arizona:
