The summer is well under way, and the Savage Life is alive and well for Arizona Basketball and Rawle Alkins in McKale.

There is never a bad time to talk about one of our favorite Arizona Basketball players Rawle Alkins and the motto he has made mainstream, Savage Life. Apparently, Washington Wizards point guard and NBA All-Star John Wall thinks the best time is when you are on a fancy vacation.

Arizona Basketball guard Rawle Alkins had told his head coach Sean Miller before he exited his post-come-back decision press conference, “Hey before you leave, remember to say Savage Life.” Now I don’t think Miller has said it yet, but when he does publically, the team and fans are going to love it.

More from Wildcats Basketball

Alkins has lived this Savage Life mantra since high school, and last season, it became huge among Wildcats and their fans on the basketball team. Alkins even had Finnish Lauri Markkanen exclaiming their team lived the Savage Life in post-game locker room interviews.

It’s a thing now, and it’s not going anywhere.

The term Savage has been used more and more in recent months, we see it in all walks of life. Maybe they are picking up on Rawle’s mantra, or maybe not.

But in Washington Wizards John Wall’s case, there are more ties that bond he and Alkins. They both came from the same neighborhood and played for the same high school, Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina.

So when Wall recently filmed a live video from what seems like a vacation on Instagram and exclaimed “Savage Life,” it caught our attention. It especially caught Rawle’s attention. Hopefully, Wall can help us all get this going as a mantra for the program next season.

Wall had a troubled childhood with his dad incarcerated for armed robbery, then passing away shortly after he was released from prison. He transferred to Word of God Christian Academy in his junior year. At Word of God, he settled down and worked on his attitude which followed by being invited to showcases and the rest is history.

Both Alkins and Wall transferred high schools, they played at the same high school, and they played for five years in high school. Lot’s of similarities there. Alkins feels an affinity for Wall, so naturally when Wall used “Savage Life” it resonated with him.

Wall was picked No. 1 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, yes both Alkins and Wall are Wildcats. Alkins is shooting to be a lottery pick in 2017 (top 14), and from what I have heard recently at the SMWW NBA conference in Vegas, he has a legitimate shot at it. Hopefully, Miller will allow him to shoot more three’s and jumpers this season as that is what one Assistant GM told he is looking to see from him.

Apparently, folks are already profiting off his Savage Life motto:

If we thought last year’s team was a bunch of savages, just wait until this year! Alkins posted this on Twitter after winning the Pac-12 Championship:
